As a music enthusiast with a soft spot for events that bring people together, I must say attending the 2024 Carousel of Hope Ball was nothing short of extraordinary! The night was filled with heartwarming moments, soulful performances, and a palpable sense of unity.

On Saturday, Ashley Benson showcased a sleek, low-neck, black, strapless dress while striking poses alongside her handsome spouse, Brandon Davis.

They were at his grandmother’s charity gala.

Barbara Davis, along with her co-chair Dana Davis, organized and presided over the 38th edition of the Carousel of Hope Ball. This grand event took place at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, with proceeds going towards the Children’s Diabetes Foundation as well as the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC).

Since 1978, this long-standing Hollywood event has recognized two exceptional individuals: Diane Warren received the ‘Inspiring Lifetime Achievement Award’, while Jimmy Jam was bestowed upon the ‘Golden Ring Award’.

At the event, attendees enjoyed shows put on by Gladys Knight and Jason Derulo, a guest spot by Rylee Arnold, as well as performances from Luke K. and MaKenzie.

Moreover, Annie Bosko, Ashley Benson, Berry Gordy, Brandon Davis, Carter Kench, Ed Begley Jr., Janice Dickinson, Josh Flagg, Kathy and Rick Hilton, Kelsey Bascom, Linda Thompson, Nicole Avant, Nigel Lythgoe, Stephen Nedoroscik, Suzanne de Passe, Ted Sarandos, and numerous others were also in attendance!

This year, The Ball managed to gather a staggering sum of approximately $1.9 million, and with the combined total from previous Carousel Balls, it has now raised over $115 million in total.

2021’s Gala united figures across the film, TV, music, and corporate sectors with the aim of boosting diabetes awareness and gathering resources for patient care and diabetes-related studies at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.

This gathering highlighted the outstanding achievements and advancements the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes has made in the field of diabetes care, including groundbreaking research and pivotal moments that have impacted the industry since it was established in 1978.

Diabetes, which afflicts over 463 million people, is rapidly on the rise. Each year, approximately 64,000 Americans are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. 

Of those, approximately 30,000 are children.

As your trusted lifestyle guide, I had the pleasure of starting the event, warmly inviting guests into our gathering. Following my introduction, we were treated to a heartfelt video message from Barbara Davis, expressing her gratitude for our presence. The room echoed with a thunderous round of applause in response.

In simpler terms, Dana Davis spoke on stage discussing the advancements made so far, expressing her thoughts as, “People living with type 1 diabetes and their loved ones often experience ongoing fears of setbacks, doubts, and the uncertainties that come with the unknown.

Thanks to each of you, they now hold onto the promise of three things: prevention, improved treatments, and ultimately, a cure – all with the dream of a fulfilling life ahead.

Here, I present my convictions that represent endless optimism, and the reason this ball is named ‘Carousel of Hope’.

David Foster returned to the stage yet again to honor long-standing advocate for the cause and acclaimed, multiple-award-winning composer, Diane Warren, with the ‘Inspiring Lifetime Achievement Award.’

In receiving the award, Warren expressed, “It’s actually Barbara Davis, Dana Davis, and everyone in this room working tirelessly for diabetes who truly deserve a standing ovation.

Terry Lewis and Max Harris bestowed the ‘Brass Ring Award’ upon renowned diabetes activist, musician, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Jimmy Jam.

During a touching part of his speech, Jimmy Jam expressed, “Tonight, I’ve noticed the term ‘hero’ used frequently, and I’d like to point out that the word ‘hero’ includes ‘h-e-r.’ Therefore, allow me to begin by acknowledging some of the ‘women’ who are heroes here tonight, commencing with Barbara Davis.

Dear Barbara, I can’t thank you enough for providing a home for my family and myself each year at this wonderful event since Max was diagnosed at age two. You have been more than just an advocate; you’ve been a true friend to our family… And let me not forget to mention Dana Davis as well.

Earlier today, we had a fantastic moment together which I truly appreciate. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am for transforming what could have been a difficult situation into an opportunity for progress, potentially leading us towards a solution.

Musician MaKenzie commenced the night’s musical shows, playing ‘The Journey’, a song penned by Diane Warren.

On the occasion of Barbara Davis’s 94th birthday, David Foster, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, along with the gathering, sung ‘Happy Birthday’ as a heartfelt tribute for her special day.

As an over-the-moon fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when eight-time GRAMMY Award-winning legend Gladys Knight graced the stage to sing classics like ‘Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me,’ ‘I’ve Got to Use My Imagination,’ ‘Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye),’ and ‘Midnight Train to Georgia. But the night took an unexpected turn when none other than Luke K. made a shocking appearance, performing his fresh new tune ‘One Shot.’ Simply unforgettable!

Grammy-winning artist Jason Derulo wrapped up the evening with renditions of “Whatcha Say,” “Savage Love (LaXed – Siren Beat),” “Trumpets,” “Talk Dirty,” and “Want to Want Me.

Rylee Arnold, a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars, recently shared her journey of being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes three years ago at the age of 16. In discussing her diagnosis, Arnold expressed, “Since then, I’ve made it a point to let this health challenge not hinder my life and instead use the lessons I’ve learned from Type 1 Diabetes as motivation to grow into an even stronger and more determined individual, helping me pursue my dreams with renewed vigor.

Additionally, I vowed to myself to constantly serve as an advocate and voice for Type 1 Diabetes. This way, I can reassure someone who has recently been diagnosed that they are capable and that diabetes should not hinder them from living their dream life. Instead, it will make them stronger. I am deeply thankful for the chance to share my journey with you all today.

In 2024, the Carousel of Hope Ball was hosted by Dexcom. Sanofi provided major funding for this event, while American Airlines served as the official airline for The Carousel of Hope. The Beverly Hilton also offered additional support. KTLA was the exclusive local television partner for this event, and Variety acted as both the entertainment trade publication sponsor and media partner.

Additionally, David Foster held the position of Music Director alongside Clive Davis and Quincy Jones, who were the Music Chairs. Meanwhile, George Schlatter came back on board as the producer for the program.

Money collected during the event came from sponsorships, ticket sales for dinner, both live and silent auctions, as well as donations.
