NASCAR: Talladega playoff race not being broadcast on USA Network
As a long-time NASCAR enthusiast who’s been through more tire changes and pit stop strategies than I can remember, it’s always a thrill to see my favorite drivers take on the tracks. The shift from USA Network to NBC for the YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway is like swapping out old tires for fresh ones – exciting and a bit nerve-wracking, but ultimately leading us closer to the finish line.
In simple terms, the final race of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series regular season at Darlington Raceway was broadcast live on USA Network. Interestingly, USA Network started off the postseason by airing all four races consecutively.
From this coming Sunday afternoon, the YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway will kick off, and from hereon, the six remaining races of the playoffs will air on NBC.
Until 2025, USA Network – a cable network owned by NBCUniversal that took over NBC Sports Network’s schedule following its closure at the end of 2021 – will not broadcast another NASCAR Cup Series race.
Talladega race set to be shown on NBC
The upcoming 188-lap race on Sunday will be the initial race that NBC broadcasts since the second last race of the regular season at Daytona International Speedway, which took place in August.
Beginning the following year, an expanded seven-year media contract will commence, encompassing Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports alongside our current NASCAR broadcasting partners Fox and NBC.
NBC’s original plan for wrapping up the racing season remains, but the number of races they will broadcast has been reduced from 20 to 14. As previously, USA Network will air 10 races. However, NBC will now only broadcast four races instead of their initial 10.
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that no matter if a race is broadcasted live on NBC or USA Network, the booth remains staffed by the same familiar faces. Recently, Leigh Diffey has stepped up to take the lead announcer role from Rick Allen, while Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte continue to provide insightful color commentary.
Tune into NBC for live broadcasting of the YellaWood 500, held at Talladega Superspeedway, starting at 2:00 p.m. ET this coming Sunday, October 6th. Ryan Blaney, Team Penske’s current race champion, is the defending winner, but Tyler Reddick of 23XI Racing triumphed at the track in April. Don’t miss out on the excitement!
