Todd Phillips rules out Joker 3 or solo movie for Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn

As a die-hard fan of the DC Universe, I must say that Todd Phillips has been a breath of fresh air with his unique take on the iconic villain, Joker. His ability to weave a compelling narrative around such a complex character is truly commendable. However, it’s unfortunate to hear that he has ruled out any further explorations into the world of Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime or even a solo Harley Quinn film with Lady Gaga.

Director Todd Phillips has dismissed the idea of making a third Joker movie or a standalone Harley Quinn film featuring Lady Gaga.

As a devoted fan, I’ve got to share that the director behind the iconic Hangover trilogy was at the helm for both DC films featuring Joaquin Phoenix’s grounded portrayal of the Batman antagonist. However, it seems he’s decided not to venture into more of those cinematic journeys anymore.

He shared with The Hollywood Reporter that the direction of this movie doesn’t resonate with him. He feels his involvement with the DC Universe was limited to those two films.

His latest remarks echo sentiments expressed earlier in an interview with Variety, where he stated, “I enjoyed exploring this playground across two films, but I believe we’ve communicated everything we intended within this universe.

Folie á Deux functions as a sequel to the initial Joker, as Arthur Fleck stands trial for the happenings in the original story, delving into the notion of how individuals become entangled with the idea of the Joker, or the Clown Prince of Crime.

The reception towards the latest Joker film has predominantly been unfavorable. To put it simply, Digital Spy’s assessment concludes that neither Lady Gaga’s fame nor Joaquin Phoenix’s dedication can rescue a film that seems intent on bringing about its own downfall.

Philipps’ filmmaking showcases intriguing concepts that range from graphic depictions of institutional brutality to reinterpretations of superhero and supervillain narratives. His work demonstrates a commendable audacity by deviating from what initially made the Joker character so popular.

Joker: Folie á Deux is available to watch in cinemas now.
