Princess Diaries 3 officially in the works at Disney as third installment confirms director
As a dedicated follower of the enchanting Princess Diaries franchise since its inception, I must say that the recent announcement of a third installment has filled my heart with pure, unadulterated joy! Growing up, these movies were an integral part of my childhood, instilling in me values of female empowerment, friendship, and the importance of mentorship.
It has been confirmed that a third edition of The Princess Diaries will be making its way to cinemas, as Disney has enlisted Adele Lim to direct the upcoming film in the beloved series. However, it remains undecided if Anne Hathaway will reprise her role.
In 2001 and 2004, Hathaway joined Julie Andrews to feature in two movies titled “The Princess Diaries” and its sequel “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.” Both of these films were masterfully directed by the late Garry Marshall, who sadly passed away in 2016.
Known primarily for penning the novel “Crazy Rich Asians,” Lim expressed his enthusiasm to Variety in a statement, saying: “Being an ardent admirer of the original ‘Princess Diaries,’ I am thrilled beyond words to be involved in bringing the third installment of this cherished series to reality.
She mentioned that we are eager to share and celebrate the fundamental principles of empowerment, happiness, and guidance for women with audiences all around the globe.
The screenplay is being penned by Flora Greeson, with Debra Martin Chase slated to produce the movie. Notably, Debra Martin Chase was instrumental in establishing the film series where Anne Hathaway portrayed Mia Thermopolis, who finds herself astonished upon learning she is the potential heir to the throne of Genovia.
2022 marked the start of Princess Diaries 3‘s production, and last year, Hathaway expressed her excitement over the advancements in the eagerly awaited movie.
In an interview with V Magazine, the 41-year-old Hollywood star shared: “Things are going well for us. There’s no news at the moment, but things are looking up.
Nevertheless, it appears that the actress known for The Devil Wears Prada hasn’t formally agreed to the project as of now; however, this fact has not deterred enthusiastic fans from expressing their hopes and prayers.
Enthusiasts were thrilled about the announcement of Lim’s return, and they couldn’t wait to express their joy on the platform once known as Twitter. One individual even posted: ‘I can hardly believe it! There’s going to be a third Princess Diaries movie, and I’m so ecstatic that I’m speechless.’

However, ‘nothing had been realized. And I think I may be wrong, but I think it’s been shelved now. I can’t be sure.
She mentioned that it has been quite some time since the two diaries were completed, and she wasn’t certain but felt that sometimes it’s best to let well-loved things remain as they are. She dislikes it when people continuously delve into a topic until it becomes stale or loses its charm.
