A popular fan theory about a key Avengers villain and a new character from Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again has been confirmed. The show is increasingly connected to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is expanding the scope of Marvel Studios’ storytelling. The latest episode hints at a dangerous alliance forming beyond the familiar streets of Hell’s Kitchen.
Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again, has revealed a growing link between the enigmatic Mr. Charles, played by Matthew Lillard, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Contessa Valentina Allegra di Fontaine. In an interview with The Wrap, Scardapane explained his intention to integrate Mr. Charles into the Marvel universe and connect him with Contessa Valentina, with the goal of creating more crossover opportunities and expanding the overall story.
We were hoping to bring Mr. Charles into the same universe as the other characters and create a connection between them. Ideally, having her appear in our world would be great, but we often keep our characters separate within their own established storylines and finding opportunities for them to interact is challenging.

This statement shows Val and Mr. Charles are secretly collaborating on something harmful. It’s unknown if Mr. Charles is involved with the New Avengersāthe team Val publicly created after the Thunderboltsābut he might gain power alongside her within that group by the time the events of Born Again conclude.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is coming to Disney+ as part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following the success of its first season. Starring Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Krysten Ritter, and Matthew Lillard, the new season finds New York City under martial law. Matt Murdock is rebuilding his life and training to return as Daredevil, determined to oppose Wilson Fisk. New episodes will be released on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. Pacific Time/9 p.m. Eastern Time.
Val’s Potential Impact on the Greater MCU

Although it’s unknown when Val will appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe project again, she remains a key player. As the CIA director, and potentially still involved with her OXE company, sheās likely to have a significant impact on the future of the MCU, particularly when it comes to events happening on the ground.
So far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Val) has appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She also has a central role planned for the Thunderbolts series. We’ve seen Val steadily gaining political influence, and she’s now networking with important figures like Wilson Fisk, who continues to serve as the mayor of New York.
Future films could depict her gaining even greater power in her efforts to subdue heroes, potentially by swaying public opinion, especially when characters like the X-Men appear.
Once her return to action is announced, we’ll likely have a better understanding of her plans, but it already looks like she’s going to be a major problem for many heroes.
