Pamela Anderson reveals she'd 'rather be raw' than polished in vulnerable new interview

As I read through this article about Pamela Anderson, I find myself deeply moved by her journey of self-acceptance and resilience. Her candidness about embracing her imperfections and her strength as a mother are truly inspiring. It’s heartening to see someone who has been in the public eye for so long, still finding the courage to be authentic and vulnerable.

57-year-old Canadian actress, writer, and cultural figure Pamela Anderson continues to ponder her true identity outside of her public persona.

Following three decades of portraying fictional characters such as Casey Jean ‘C.J.’ Parker on Baywatch and Barb in the 1996 dystopian sci-fi action film Barb Wire, the renowned figure – often considered the epitome of the classic blonde bombshell – has shared insights into her personal journey of self-exploration.

The mother-of-two explained that the process has been her ‘hardest work over the past few years.’

In response to Glamour’s direct question about who ‘Pamela Denise Anderson’ was presently, she admitted that she started assuming various roles from a tender, youthful age.

As a passionately imaginative soul, I never grasped that my gift could be a profession. But as fate would have it, upon my arrival in this great nation and the twists of life’s pathway – from Playboy to marriage with Tommy – I found myself yearning to excel, always striving to be the best version of myself.

Currently, the performer expresses that she has dedicated herself to being on her own, discovering her preferences independent of others’ views.

Additionally, she is no longer afraid to speak her mind and get vulnerable about her past.

As a die-hard fan, I found myself deeply moved by the 2022 Hulu series, Pam & Tommy. The portrayal of the leaked sex tape scandal between Pamela and Tommy Lee struck me more powerfully than I could have ever anticipated.

She expressed that the thought of the Hulu issue resurfacing left her feeling extremely queasy. It seemed as if yet another blow to the abdomen, as it was hard for her to accept that some people might find it amusing.

Meanwhile, during that time in her life, she said she lost her husband, ‘sanity’ and career.

She explained, “At the time, I wasn’t aware of it,” but it felt like a post-traumatic reaction causing her to behave impulsively. Reflecting on her past, she acknowledged there were situations she could have handled better. She continued, “In today’s world, career management is crucial, and I was essentially winging it without a plan.

Following the belief that her reputation had been permanently stained, she consented to make appearances on several reality programs, such as Big Brother and Dancing on Ice.

During that time, she said she use to ‘try and laugh’ off the pain.

‘I think that’s how we learned to deal with it,’ she explained.

Undeniably, enduring decades of tabloid scrutiny and serving as the punchline for numerous late-night comedians left an indelible mark on me.

She stated, “Even when someone calls me by my name, I’m not fond of it. There’s a negative association attached to it for me. It’s challenging because I’ve developed a self-stereotype, being a woman. Consequently, I’ve been putting in effort to change this perception.

She expressed, “I’m like a Halloween costume, always recognizable wherever you go. That’s how people perceive me… It isn’t as if I recently moved to LA and started acting a part. I’ve been on these shows, and every moment was captured by cameras. Consequently, I’ve just gone along with it.

As she works on discovering herself, Anderson has stopped hiding behind makeup.

1) She stated, “I’ve finished it and experimented with it.” And regarding makeup, she added, “I don’t have any issues with it, but I found that it suited me better when I was in my twenties compared to how it looks on me now.

The actress observed that as she reached her 50s, she found herself questioning, “Should I pursue youth at the cost of unhappiness? Should I accept myself? Or should I strive for both?” This self-acceptance, she said, is a continuous journey. It’s challenging to embrace this path when one is still engaged in events like red carpets and magazine covers that heavily rely on makeup.

In a heartfelt manner, I’d like to share a sentiment: Rather than striving for an overly polished image, I prefer authenticity. I have a slightly asymmetrical face – one eye is smaller than the other, my nose is slightly crooked, and my lips are unique. Yet, we all possess our own quirks and imperfections. We’re all peculiar in our own way.

Regardless of where you stand in your personal journey towards beauty, it’s crucial to embrace yourself wholeheartedly, just as you are. Currently, I’m experiencing a significant realization, accepting the scars and imperfections that I carry, when it comes to being natural in public or during photoshoots.

She went on to say she is ‘definitely much happier now’ than ten years ago.

Additionally, Anderson acknowledged that her sons, Brandon Thomas Lee and Dylan Jagger Lee (who she has with Lee) provided her with a source of strength.

She explained, ‘It was my sons who were instrumental in my survival – something you wouldn’t want your children to encounter. Without them by my side, I couldn’t have been as resilient as I was. I had to be strong for my sons, and that strength compelled me to part ways with Tommy for their sake.’

Apart from discussing other topics, Anderson additionally shared insights on the anticipated 2024 U.S. presidential election and the potential reversal of the Roe v. Wade decision.

She expressed that it’s quite frightening, even extremely so, she added. Regarding her political affiliation, she clarified that she doesn’t neatly fit into either the Republican or Democratic camp. However, she admitted leaning more towards the Democratic side. Unfortunately, she believes there are many issues beyond our control. But, she emphasized, the most important action is to exercise your right to vote.

Anderson stressed that she she doesn’t ‘want a sexual predator in the White House.’

She expressed great conviction on the subject, emphasizing that if Donald Trump were to be re-elected for a second term, that would be a firm limit for her.

On Tuesday, Anderson accepted the coveted Glamour Impact Award.

The Glamour Women of the Year Awards recognize and celebrate the trailblazing activists and record-setters who are driving progress towards women’s equal rights.

At another part of the event, Naomie Harris, a friend and co-actress, presented the Trailblazer trophy to Jodie Turner-Smith, who is 48 years old.
