Rugrats live-action movie in the works
As a gamer who grew up in the ’90s, the news of the new Rugrats live-action movie has me feeling all nostalgic and excited like Tommy Pickles when he discovers a new adventure in the Land of Make-Believe! I remember staying up late to watch Rugrats on Nickelodeon, laughing at the antics of those mischievous babies and their imaginative world.
The classic animated series “Rugrats” is making a comeback with a brand new live-action movie. Known for his work on “Pitch Perfect”, filmmaker Jason Moore has been tapped to direct this highly anticipated project. The movie will incorporate computer-generated imagery (CGI) to bring the babies to life, as reported by Deadline.
On Saturday evening, comedian Mikey Day teamed up with Streeter Seidell to write the script for a project, while Karen Rosenfelt joined forces with “Rugrats” creators Arlene Klasky and Gabor Csupo in the role of producer.
The upcoming movie will feature Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, Phil, and Lil DeVille navigating through the actual world.
As of now, I’m unsure if more beloved characters like my favorite trio – Tommy’s brother Dil Pickles, the lovable dog Spike, and the mischievous cousin Angelica Pickles – will make a comeback too.
In 1991, a beloved show on Nickelodeon made its debut, rapidly rising among the top-rated programs for the network. This series chronicled a gang of toddlers embarking on a variety of whimsical journeys, some rooted in reality while others were purely imaginative.
The actors featured were Cheryl Chase, Nancy Cartwright, Cree Summer, Kath Soucie, Tara Strong, Melanie Chartoff, Christine Cavanaugh, and Jack Riley.
Originally airing for three seasons from its debut, Rugrats came to a halt in 1993. However, due to improved ratings, the series was revived in 1996 and ran until 2004 – concluding with an impressive total of nine seasons.
Since then, the show has sparked several movies such as “The Rugrats Movie” from 1998, “Rugrats in Paris” in 2000, and “Rugrats Go Wild” in 2003. The latter movie had a unique crossover with another animated series called “The Wild Thornberrys”.
In 2003, a spin-off series named “All Grown Up!” hit the screens. This show continued the story of the main characters from “Rugrats“, but this time it was set ten years later.
In 2021, Paramount+ introduced a revival of the beloved series that many fans adore, and most of the original show’s vocal actors reprised their roles.
More recently, Moore has been at the helm of a romantic comedy on Prime Video titled “Shotgun Wedding”, featuring Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel. Previously, he had directed the 2015 comedy “Sisters” starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
