Ben Cousins ‘devastated’ he didn’t get to meet Katy Perry at the AFL Grand Final… while his sister managed to score a photo with the pop superstar

Ben Cousins expressed deep regret that he wasn’t able to encounter Katy Perry during her recent visit to Melbourne for the AFL Grand Final last week.
46-year-old, who was once an AFL player, expressed his sadness following a pivotal moment reminiscent of the movie “Sliding Doors,” which denied him the opportunity to encounter the renowned pop star.
The Brownlow Medallist admitted he felt ‘pretty flat’ about the missed opportunity.
On Mix 94.5’s morning show with Pete and Kymba, the ex-captain of the West Coast Eagles shared that attending the Grand Final was enjoyable, however, the absence of the Roar performer significantly dampened the experience for him.
He mentioned that, despite enjoying his ten-day stay in Melbourne greatly, the most disappointing moment for him was undeniably his sister encountering Katy Perry. This was a letdown since he missed out on experiencing it himself.
My son Bobby Cousins and I were seated a level below where my sister, mother, and close friend were located in the corporate boxes at the MCG.
Previously, I had suggested to my son, “Let’s head up to the upper level during the final quarter,” to which he responded, “No Dad, I don’t want to be confined by the glass, I prefer being immersed in the real environment instead!
After acquiring the picture featuring my sister and Katy Perry, he exclaimed, “Perhaps we should have ascended instead!
Ben shared that his sister Mel, along with a friend, encountered a superstar when they crossed paths with her and her group in a corridor close by.
‘My buddy casually walked up to them and asked if they could take a picture with the group. Security seemed ready to pounce on him, but Katy intervened and graciously agreed that they could snap the photo.’
The girls retrieved the picture, and they were overjoyed! Upon returning to the group, it seemed like they were shouting, but me and my friend Bobby remained rather unenthusiastic.
Regardless of his feelings of letdown, Ben acknowledged that the Teenage Dream singer’s show served as a strong compensation.
‘We did enjoy her pre-game entertainment though. She was great!’
It comes after Ben recently reunited with Bec Judd at the 2024 Brownlow Medal.
At an event, the wife of AFL player Chris Judd admitted that she felt like a fan meeting her idol when she first encountered another famous AFL player, Ben Cousins, as a teenager.
At the awards event, the duo found each other again, and Bec posted a heartwarming snapshot from that special instance on her Instagram Story.

The pair cozied up for a selfie, both beaming for the camera.
While Bec had husband Chris with her, Ben took his sister, Melanie, as his date for AFL’s night of nights.
