Margot Robbie’s forgotten ’60s airline drama coming to ITVX

As a long-time fan of both Margot Robbie and period dramas, I can hardly contain my excitement for the arrival of ‘Pan Am’ on ITVX! This forgotten gem from 2011, set at the dawn of the commercial Jet Age, promises a delightful blend of romance, societal upheaval, and international intrigue.

Margot Robbie’s forgotten ’60s airline drama Pan Am is coming to ITVX.

The show, debuting in 2011, chronicles a team of flight attendants and pilots employed by Pan American World Airways, as they navigate their roles at the onset of the commercial Jet Era, specifically in 1963.

On its maiden flight, the high-end airplane’s journey unfolds with elements of love stories, evolving social norms, and covert global intelligence matters.

If you’d like a nostalgic journey, tune into Pan Am starting from Monday, October 28 on ITV’s popular streaming platform.

Robbie portrays the character of Laura Cameron, a recently trained flight attendant, who aspires to demonstrate self-reliance following her decision to leave her own wedding.

In the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” directed by Quentin Tarantino in 2019, the actress temporarily returned to play Laura, a role she had previously taken on. Interestingly, she was also cast as Sharon Tate in this film.

The cast of Pan Am additionally features Christina Ricci, Michael Mosley, Karine Vanasse, Mike Vogel, and Kelli Garner. Notably, the actor from Stranger Things, David Harbour, appears in a recurring capacity within the series.

Initially, the show on ABC attracted a massive audience of 11.06 million viewers, but unfortunately, interest waned dramatically, with only 3.77 million tuning in for the final episode. In the end, the network chose to discontinue the series after airing 14 episodes.

Sony Pictures attempted to negotiate a deal with Amazon for another season of the series Pan Am, but unfortunately, they couldn’t come to an agreement.

Back in May 2012, I was thrilled to witness “Pan Am” bagging the prestigious Gold Rose Award for Best Series at the International Rose d’Or TV awards. It was a close call, but it managed to edge past contenders like Martina Cole’s “The Runaway” and the gripping legal drama “The Jury”.

Speaking of Robbie, it was just announced that he has been cast for a role in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights. In this new movie, Robbie will portray Catherine Earnshaw, while Jacob Elordi will take on the character of Heathcliff.

After the massive theater earnings of Greta Gerwig’s hit film last year, Robbie is set to star in the upcoming movie titled “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” alongside Colin Farrell, who gained fame from his role in “The Batman“.

This imaginative story, titled a “fantasy romance”, follows the emotional odyssey of two unlikely individuals who become deeply connected. Catch it on the big screen starting May 2025.

Pan Am will be available to stream on ITVX from Monday, October 28.
