Amazon pulls purported Kim Porter memoir after it is denounced by her children

As a movie lover who has spent countless hours poring over biographies and memoirs of iconic figures, I must say that the recent developments surrounding the late Kim Porter’s memoir are nothing short of baffling. The fact that Amazon pulled the book due to disputes over its authenticity is not unusual in the world of celebrity literature, but the circumstances surrounding this book are particularly troubling.

The publication of a memoir, purportedly written by the late Kim Porter and accusing her former boyfriend, the troubled music industry titan Sean “Diddy” Combs, of abuse, has been halted by Amazon.

On Tuesday, the online retail colossus took down “Kim’s Lost Words: A Journey for Justice, From the Other Side…” from their site. This action follows Kim’s children speaking out against the book, expressing doubts about its truthfulness.

On Wednesday, an Amazon representative informed us that there’s a disagreement concerning this particular book title, and we’ve alerted the publisher about it. At present, you won’t find this book for purchase on our online platform. The exact number of books sold remains uncertain.

The $22 memoir, filled with mistakes and inaccuracies, shot to the top of the bestseller list just days after Combs was apprehended on September 16 for charges related to sex trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution. However, Porter’s four children, three of whom she had with Bad Boy Entertainment co-founder Combs, publicly denounced the memoir, stating that allegations that their mother wrote the book were completely false.

They stated, “If someone asserts they possess a manuscript, they are deceiving you. Furthermore, be aware that anyone purporting to speak on behalf of our mother or her relatives does not truly care for her wellbeing.

Erica Wolf, Combs’ legal representative, has additionally characterized the book as “false”, “disrespectful”, and an “unscrupulous effort to capitalize on a tragic event”.

For approximately thirteen years, Porter had an on-again, off-again relationship with Combs. Tragically, she passed away at the age of 47 in November 2018, following an incident at her home in the San Fernando Valley where she was found unconscious. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed in January 2019 that her death was due to natural causes, specifically lobar pneumonia. However, various conspiracy theories were dispelled by her children.

The cover of the supposed memoir claimed it was penned by Jamal T. Millwood for Kimberly A. Porter. However, it was later uncovered that the author was Chris Todd, a writer and investigative journalist, who wrote under a pseudonym. In the prologue, he stated that one of Porter’s dying wishes was to have this memoir/diary published publicly. Yet, even Todd, who self-published the book, had doubts about the authenticity of its contents.

Todd revealed to Rolling Stone that he obtained the necessary resources from two individuals who claimed they were acquainted with both Porter and Combs, following Casandra “Cassie” Ventura’s lawsuit against Combs in November. Additionally, Todd shared with the Associated Press that information was provided to him by sources extremely close to Kim and Sean Combs, which included a flash drive, documents, and tapes from Porter, that he subsequently used to compile his memoir.

Combs, who has been the subject of a sweeping federal inquiry over the past year, has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges levied him. However, the rap impresario also faces a mountain of civil lawsuits, including one looming class-action lawsuit. On Tuesday, Texas attorney Tony Buzbee said he was planning to file that lawsuit on behalf of more than 100 people, including some who were minors at the time, who allege that Combs and others sexually abused and exploited them.
