Jameela Jamil is defending her harsh texts calling Blake Lively a ‘suicide bomber,’ saying she feels relieved they’ve been made public.
In August 2024, 39-year-old British actress was messaging with Justin Baldoni’s publicist, Jennifer Abel, around the time allegations of problematic behavior on set began surfacing against the director of ‘It Ends With Us,’ Justin Baldoni.
In December 2024, just a few months later, Blake, age 38, sued Justin, alleging sexual harassment and claiming he deliberately damaged her reputation while they were working together on a television drama about domestic violence. He was the director and co-star of the show.
As a longtime follower of this case, I can tell you that Baldoni has completely refuted everything Blake has said about him. Plus, the lawsuit Justin filed against Lively was ultimately dropped, which is a significant development.
Recently released court records from the continuing lawsuit show private conversations between those involved, including texts between Jameela and Jennifer where they made fun of and insulted Blake.
The actor from ‘The Good Place’ harshly criticized her, calling her a ‘suicide bomber’ and describing her behavior as a strange and villainous act. She told Jennifer that the situation was completely finished.
Jameela responded to her critics in a Substack post, stating she wants to express herself authentically and not like a manufactured celebrity speaking through a PR team.
I don’t want to pretend to be someone I’m not just to gain approval. I want people to accept or reject the real me, flaws and all.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the recent conversations surrounding the actress from Gossip Girl. It all started when she received a lot of criticism online for how she promoted the book, It Ends With Us. People felt her approach didn’t quite understand the serious themes the book explores, and that’s what led to the public discussion – and now, these newly revealed text exchanges.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the reaction to Blake’s recent film, and it’s been interesting. Some viewers felt she highlighted the movie’s more romantic side a bit too much, especially given its important and serious subject matter – domestic violence. A lot of the criticism centered around the idea that the promotional focus seemed to be more about her role in creating the film and building her personal brand than about actually raising awareness of the film’s core message. It’s a tricky balance, wanting to celebrate your work while ensuring the important themes aren’t overshadowed.
I was absolutely horrified reading the messages. When Justin’s publicist, Jennifer, tried to blame Blake for her own struggles, Jameela responded with something incredibly powerful, though deeply upsetting. She said Blake was essentially destroying herself, comparing her to a ‘suicide bomber.’ It really highlighted how desperate and self-destructive Blake’s situation had become, and Jameela’s words, while shocking, felt like a raw and honest reflection of that.
Following Blake’s attempt to respond to criticism by posting resources and statistics about domestic violence, Jameela commented that his post was a failure, saying, ‘Did you see Blake post that survivors link? Dead.’
She dismissed the information as impersonal and lacking substance, simply stating it contained ‘just stats and a link.’ She then expressed her strong disapproval of the villain’s behavior, calling it incredibly strange and declaring she’d ‘never seen anything like it’ before.
In a recent essay on Substack, Jameela explained her choices, suggesting many women actually appreciate her refusal to fit the mold of the seemingly perfect celebrities common in Hollywood.
She believes it doesn’t benefit women to see so many celebrities who appear identical – with the same looks and repeating the same messages – as role models.
Every year, I face a lot of online criticism, mainly from women, who all seem convinced that this time, it will finally ruin my reputation or career.
Despite this, my following continues to grow, likely because many women are secretly intrigued by someone who sometimes acts unpredictably and persistently pursues their ambitions, even when it’s difficult.
Although I was deeply upset that my private text messages were revealed, I actually feel a sense of relief now that it’s out in the open.
It’s not just that I constantly try to be down-to-earth, rejecting the praise I often receive simply for caring.
Honestly, it just kills me that we don’t see enough scenes of women really being there for each other when one of them is going through a tough time. Like, truly talking – not just quick pep talks, but the real, messy, supportive conversations girlfriends have when someone’s hurting. I need to see that on screen, you know? It feels so important and…missing.
I tend to write harsh texts because I’m upset about how my friend is being treated. To vent, I’ve created a small, private group where people can gossip and be a little catty without fear of judgment – it’s a harmless outlet for frustration.
Justin has refuted everything Blake accused him of, and a $400 million lawsuit he filed against her has been dropped. Their court case is set to begin in May 2026.
Newly released court filings also showed private messages revealing friction in Blake’s friendship with Taylor Swift. Texts showed the two longtime friends attempting to repair their bond after Taylor expressed concern that Blake’s messages had become too formal and resembled a company-wide email.
Messages from Jenny Slate, who acted alongside Blake in the movie It Ends With Us, were also revealed. She described the filming experience as ‘really unpleasant and upsetting’ and said that Justin and the producer, Jamey Heath, were ‘completely unsuitable’ to be in charge.
After her recent writings were published, Jameela shared a TikTok video explaining that women don’t have to be friends to work together for equal rights.
