As a binge-watching enthusiast with over two decades of TV-viewing under my belt, let me tell you that “Yellowjackets” has undeniably taken the streaming world by storm. In just a day’s time on Netflix, it climbed up the top 10 list like a seasoned mountaineer scaling Mount Everest!

On Oct. 1, Netflix added the first season of the Emmy-nominated horror series Yellowjackets to its platform, and just like that, the show has risen up the streamer’s top 10 TV shows list. It only took a day of being on the streaming platform, and the horror series is already one of the most popular shows on Netflix at the moment. As of Oct. 2, it’s ranking at the No. 7 spot, and it doesn’t look like it’ll be dropping off the list anytime soon. If you haven’t watched this incredible series yet, what are you waiting on? Yellowjackets” is a TV show produced by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson for Showtime. These writers are recognized for their work on previous episodes of the supernatural drama series “The Originals” and the crime drama series “Narcos: Mexico.” The first season of “Yellowjackets” debuted in November 2021 on Showtime, quickly becoming popular. Critics and viewers generally had positive feedback about the show, with many commending the storyline, script, direction, and acting, particularly that of the skilled cast ensemble.

Based on the outstanding performance of its first season, Showtime quickly recognized the potential to continue the series, leading to a swift renewal for a second season just a month after its debut. However, before the second season could even air in March 2023, the network opted to greenlight a third season as early as December 2022. This suggests that Showtime was confident they had a hit on their hands and wanted to fully capitalize on its success. Considering the series has only improved after two seasons, it seems this strategic move could lead to many more installments in the future.

The chilling saga unfolds across two periods: 1996 and 2021. In the 1996 narrative, we follow a high school girls’ soccer team who find themselves stranded in the Canadian wilderness after their plane crashes en route to a national tournament. Faced with the harsh realities of survival, they are forced to consider drastic measures, such as cannibalism. Fast forward to 2021, and we catch up with the survivors from that fateful day, now grown adults, who continue to grapple with the unresolved traumas from their harrowing experience in the wilderness.

This remarkably skilled acting group includes Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Ella Purnell, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Kevin Alves, Simone Kessell, Lauren Ambrose, and more.

To clarify, the series titled “Yellowjackets” has been acknowledged with 10 Emmy nominations thus far, among which is a nod for Outstanding Drama Series. Actress Christina Ricci was also nominated for the Golden Globe in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role on Television due to her performances within this show. With its impressive display, it’s quite likely that “Yellowjackets” will continue to be recognized with more prestigious award nominations in the future and perhaps even take home some victories!

Currently, just the initial season of the chilling TV series can be streamed on Netflix. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that Netflix secures the rights to broadcast the second season soon. If the first season receives a positive response on the streaming service, it might encourage them to add more episodes. Let’s hope for the best! In the meantime, you’ll need to switch over to Paramount+ if you wish to watch the second season. However, please note that in order to stream it on this platform, you should have a Paramount+ with Showtime plan.

As a die-hard fan of Yellowjackets, I can’t contain my excitement knowing that Season 3 is on its way! Showtime has it scheduled for a release in the year 2025. Now, here’s where things get interesting: if Netflix ever manages to grab the streaming rights for this new season, it won’t be happening any time soon.
