As a die-hard NASCAR enthusiast with decades of trackside experiences under my belt, I must say that this recent shift in broadcasting arrangements has been quite a rollercoaster ride! From NBC to USA Network and back to NBC, it’s been an exciting journey, much like the races themselves.
Last Sunday afternoon, I tuned into the live broadcast of the NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Kansas Speedway on USA Network for the fifth race in a row instead of NBC. This marks the fourth consecutive playoff race to begin the four-round, 10-race postseason being aired on this network.
Since 2022, USA Network has taken over as the backup network during NBC’s broadcast schedule, filling in for NBC Sports Network which ceased operations. Out of the 20 races scheduled for this year within NBC’s broadcast calendar, half (10) will be aired on NBC and the remaining half (10) will be shown on USA Network.
10 races that were broadcasted on USA Network have already taken place. Starting from this upcoming Sunday afternoon, the final six races of the 2024 season for the Cup Series will air on NBC.
No more races on USA Network in 2024
Live coverage of the forthcoming events at Talladega, Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway, Martinsville Speedway, and Phoenix Raceway will all be broadcast on NBC.
Commencing from the upcoming year, an updated media rights agreement will be enforced. This deal includes not only our current NASCAR media partners like Fox and NBC, but also introduces newcomers such as Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports to the mix.
The planned schedule for NBC in the season finale and postseason is being shortened from 20 races to only 14. On the other hand, USA Network will continue to broadcast 10 events, as the number of races NBC will air has been significantly decreased from 10 events down to just 4.
Tune in to NBC at 2:00 p.m. ET this Sunday, October 6 for the live broadcast of the YellaWood 500 from Talladega Superspeedway. Start a free trial of FuboTV now and don’t miss any of the action on NBC from now until the end of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season!
