As someone who has spent a significant portion of my life navigating through the intricate labyrinth of societal norms and expectations, I find the events described here to be incredibly inspiring. The resilience, determination, and unapologetic advocacy for women’s rights that these women embody is truly commendable.

This year, I was thrilled to receive an invitation for the annual Glamour Women of the Year Awards, considered among the most glittering events of the year.

As an over-the-moon fanatic, eagerly serving as the acting entertainment editor for TopMob, I hastily slipped into a fresh outfit in the restroom before dashing off to a taxi, bound for the stunning Raffles OWO nestled in London’s Whitehall. It was there that the unforgettable event was unfolding.

Upon my arrival, it seemed as though the stars were gently trickling down a damp crimson rug that gave off a squishy sound with each step I took. It appeared that Hollywood actress Chloe Bailey was taking extra care not to get soaked, having to lift her dress to avoid the wetness. Welcome to London, Chloe!

Upon entering, it was clear that there were significantly more famous personalities than regular people present. The elegant reception area was filled with beautiful arrangements of blue hydrangeas, and servers circulated with trays of bubbly champagne.

I was guided towards Dannii Minogue, who appeared strikingly lovely in a floor-length dress, and in person, she’s quite petite.

She clinked her champagne glass against mine in a toast, just as I almost stumbled upon the stunning Perrie Edwards from Little Mix, who was wearing an eye-catching, revealing brown dress.

DJ Jodie Harsh, accompanied by Gossip star Beth Ditto and Bimini Bon Boulash, was playfully snapping photos and stirring up fun in various locations.

We made our way down an impressive staircase, leading us to where the awards ceremony started. I found myself seated next to a well-known health expert and a renowned plastic surgeon to celebrities – she shared that she wouldn’t greet anyone for fear of revealing who among them had undergone cosmetic procedures. Maintaining privacy is crucial!

The celebs ate cured Cornish seabass to start with confit lemon, elderflower and cucumber.

For their primary dish, they received a serving of South Downs lamb, which was slow-cooked as a braised shoulder, accompanied by a layer of gratin potatoes, a red pepper sauce, and green beans.

The dessert consisted of Yuzu curd, a meringue sweetened with manuka honey that had been toasted, a vanilla-green tea waffle, orange blossom panna cotta, a mix of passionfruit and mango, and a dark chocolate popping candy lollipop.

At the table adjacent to mine, actress Jodie-Turner Smith was seated, arriving fashionably late while donning a striking pinstripe suit and towering heels. She exuded an otherworldly charm.

At the presentation ceremony, friend Naomie Harris handed the Trailblazer award to Ann Boleyn Star. In a passionate address, she declared her intention to devote her future endeavors to sharing the untold narratives of women whose perspectives deserve recognition.

At her chair, unsatisfied with the complimentary house wine, she discreetly retrieved an expensive bottle of Clas Azul tequila hidden beneath the table. She then poured some into both her friend’s and her own glasses, catching my appreciative look and flashing me a playful wink.

As Beth Ditto hurriedly approached my table without shoes, dressed in a sparkling floral sequin gown, she complained about the intense heat before quickly leaving to find some relief.

She spent the evening seated at a table alongside comedian Katherine Ryan, her partner Bobby Koostra, and frequently erupted into laughter and applause throughout the night.

After wrapping up the event, I had a heartfelt chat with her where she confided in me about her ongoing battle to find tranquility amidst her challenging pre-menopausal phase. We shared our concerns and empathy for the unique challenges it presents.

Humorist and emcee Katherine Ryan playfully commented on the idea that men might unintentionally stray, whereas women strategically decide to be unfaithful.

Although it was clear that Jodie had parted ways with her ex-husband Joshua Jackson, her current partner, Bobby, gazed at her with admiration, while Jodie, in turn, exclaimed, “I love her,” as they both nodded in unison. It’s important to clarify that this statement doesn’t imply any infidelity on Joshua’s part.

Actress Minnie Driver, resplendent in a petite pink gown, was stunning yet self-conscious about her towering stature once on stage. She promptly discarded her Dior high heels and bellowed playfully, “Who would I be allowed to toss these at?

Woman Of The Year Pamela Anderson looked incredible when she took to the stage to accept her award.

However, she became slightly agitated when the screen in front of her failed to display her prepared speech that she had planned ahead.

She begins by gushing: ‘Wow, it’s been a crazy year,’ before pausing and looking around in confusion.

As I stand here poised but paperless, I find myself wondering aloud: “Shall I receive my prepared speech soon, or must I rely on my wits and improvisation?

In a louder voice, Jodie called out to her, saying, “It’s down at the lower display,” but despite this, Pamela replied with equal vigor, “Nope, it’s not there.

Following the documents being handed to her, she playfully commented, “I’m not one for high demands,” before delivering an inspiring address.

She shared with the audience: “The recent years have given me a sense of starting anew, I’m embarking on a journey that is both exciting and significant.

Pamela went on to explain, “However, the point I wanted to make is…” But she hesitated once more, unable to proceed because she couldn’t locate the piece of paper that held her main piece of advice.

A brief spell of anxiety followed, then there was an eruption of cheers as she received the last page at last.

She stated, “What has occurred won’t shape who I am; it’s my actions that do. My best is what I show here, and that’s sufficient.

I’m dedicating this award to all the women out there, overcoming their past hardships and discovering the strength to shine as their finest selves.

At another memorable instance, Bridgerton actress Simone Ashley received the Game-Changing Actor accolade from her fellow cast member Nicola Coughlan, while gracefully appearing on stage in an eye-catching yellow dress.

During an extended discourse, she elaborately explained her persistent aggravation with the issue where she, along with many other women, have encountered being deemed ‘unable’ to achieve success.

Later on, Simone mentioned an uncomfortable interaction she had with a man not long ago, who tried to assist her in parking parallel, labeling his actions as both ‘annoying’ and ‘overbearing.’

In another impactful speech, Jameela Jamil, recipient of the Game Changing Voice Of The Year award, conveyed to her audience: ‘The patriarchy tries to sidetrack, damage, and obliterate [women] as we grow older because it becomes more challenging to manipulate us. Because our worth increases significantly’.

Additionally, it’s important to remain unaware, as discovering such information may lead us to invest more of our resources in efforts aimed at promoting fairness and equality worldwide.

The previous night marked Deborah Joseph’s final stint as European Editorial Director, as she has decided to move on after seven years with the magazine to focus on writing her own book.

Regarding the significant occurrence, she commented: “The year 2024 stands out as both challenging and triumphant globally for women, with an abundance of brave activists confronting authority and numerous instances where women’s rights are advancing, yet there are also distressing signs of setbacks.

As an ardent supporter, I can’t help but feel passionately about those trailblazers, crusaders, and feminist titans who continue to shape our world into a more equitable space for women. With so much left to conquer, their tireless efforts are not just significant, but crucial.

In the evening, I curated an event honoring remarkable women from the realms of music, television, cinema, and sports – truly a star-studded affair!

The occasion, backed by Samsung and its latest Galaxy Ring, celebrates pioneering activists and trailblazers who are spearheading the movement towards gender equality.
