NCIS alum Pauley Perrette says she will 'never again' go back to acting and wants to prioritize a 'life of true authenticity'

As a die-hard NCIS fan who has followed Pauley Perrette’s journey from Abby Sciuto to her current pursuits, I must say I admire her courage and authenticity. After spending over a decade immersed in the world of television, it takes a great deal of bravery to step away and pursue a life of true authenticity.

Pauley Perrette said she has zero plans to go back to acting in television or film.

The well-recognized actress, famed for portraying Abby Sciuto on NCIS from 2003 to 2018, has stated that she has no plans to resume her acting career in the future.

Now she said she wants to prioritize a ‘life of true authenticity.’

She shared with HELLO! in an interview published on Tuesday, “Returning to acting might mean stepping away from the completely genuine lifestyle I lead all the time.

Subsequently, she left her position as the eccentric yet gifted forensic scientist on NCIS after an alleged disagreement with her co-star Mark Harmon. This incident seemingly hastened her decision to retire from acting.

About her continued involvement in the long-standing military police procedural show, she firmly dismissed the possibility.

‘I’m not ungrateful for the benefits that it gave to me,’ she continued.

However, I’ve changed significantly over time, and I yearn to experience this transformation – the joyous moments, the challenging ones, and the difficult times alike.

Perrette stated: “I prefer to always be true to myself, and it requires quite a bit of bravery for me to admit this, but it truly reflects my genuine feelings.

Perrette is now executive producing documentaries.

In her current stage of life, she expressed the strong desire to uncover truthfulness in all aspects, and as an actress, at particular moments, it served as a wonderful distraction for her.

She mentioned that it felt as if she was on a sort of escape, where she could step out of her usual self and become someone else, because she wasn’t burdened with the issues she was dealing with in reality.

To put it in my own words as a devoted admirer, she confessed that her attraction towards documentary filmmaking stems from her unquenchable thirst for ‘honesty’ and ‘genuineness’.

‘It’s why I only watch documentaries, I want the truth,’ she said.

In 2018, Paulette (Perrette) left the ongoing series following a reported conflict with her fellow actor, Mark Harmon.

It’s been said that a tense work atmosphere may have originated from a serious event where Harmon’s dog reportedly bit Perrette on set, causing her great fear towards her fellow actor.

Previously, she expressed her experiences with multiple physical assaults on a platform that was once known as Twitter, without directly naming Harmon.

In June 2019, three years following her departure from NCIS, she expressed via tweet: “I’M NOT RETURNING! NEVER! (Please stop inquiring?) I am petrified of Harmon and his potential aggression towards me. I often have nightmares about it. I now have a show that is peaceful and joyful! You’ll adore it! #HappyPlace, I care for you all!

Afterwards, she was casted as the series lead of a new family sitcom titled Broke.

In the series, she played Jackie Dixon, a lone parent who had to accommodate her affluent sister’s kin when they became penniless. Unfortunately, the show didn’t continue past its initial season.

Following the wrap-up of the series, I myself made the decision to hang up my acting shoes permanently, having previously intended to do so upon leaving NCIS. This move was not a spur-of-the-moment choice but one that I had carefully considered beforehand.

‘Actually I retired after NCIS but BROKE was important, beautiful,’ she wrote on X in 2020.

‘I just danced for the last time and I couldn’t be prouder! Since everyone who knows me was aware that I was retiring soon, it’s no surprise. I am incredibly proud of what I accomplished. I love all of you! Now, I feel liberated! (To live as the small, simple human that I am!) #Plants #RescuePets #Books.’

Before becoming well-known for her role as the cherished forensic scientist on NCIS, she had previously acted in shows like Dawson’s Creek, The Ring, Almost Famous, Frasier, and Time of Your Life.
