After following the ups and downs of this iconic series over the years, it’s truly heartening to see Sidney Prescott return to the fold, played by the inimitable Neve Campbell. The announcement about the upcoming event was made on Instagram by actress Neve Campbell and director Kevin Williamson. They posted an image showing a knife piercing a calendar, accompanied by the caption: “Looking forward to a thrilling 2026!
In “Scream 7”, Neve Campbell reappears as Sidney Prescott, having left the series prior to “Scream VI” due to a payment disagreement.
Campbell disclosed her comeback as the character Sidney in March, expressing excitement on Instagram by saying: “I can’t contain my excitement to share this news!!! Sidney Prescott is making a return!!!! Playing Sidney in the Scream movies has always been an enjoyable and honorable experience for me. My affection for these films and what they have meant to me, remains as strong as ever.
Her comeback occurred following a string of notable departures from the movie involving actors such as Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, along with the initial director, Christopher Landon.
Barrera left the project last year, reportedly over comments she made on the Israel-Palestine conflict, to which she since said she felt compelled to use her platform and profile “to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need… I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom”.
Ortega, due to scheduling conflicts, has lately commented on Barrera’s departure during an interview with Vanity Fair, discussing Hollywood’s perspective on such disagreements.
She stated that while many strive for political correctness, there’s a sense that we sacrifice a significant amount of our genuine humanity and personal integrity due to its absence of sincerity.
