Prime Video’s New The Boys Series Is Intended For Multiple Seasons After Season 5 Ends, Says Jensen Ackles

The Boys‘ upcoming spinoff won’t be a one-and-done.

The popular superhero series The Boys, created by Eric Kripke, first launched in 2019 and is preparing to release its final season. While season 5 will conclude the main story, the universe of The Boys will continue with a new prequel series currently in development.

Jensen Ackles recently told Collider that the upcoming Vought Rising series, where he’ll return as Soldier Boy, is planned to have several seasons. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting that the creators already have a long-term vision for it.

Jared Padalecki says the plan is definitely for multiple seasons of the show. When the prequel idea – going back to the 1950s with the character Soldier Boy – was presented, he immediately agreed, saying he didn’t even let them finish explaining it. He confirms the creators intend for it to be a long-running series.

The upcoming series, Vought Rising, from The Boys showrunner Paul Grellong, will be quite different from its parent show. It’s a murder mystery set in the 1950s that explores the beginnings of Vought International, and will showcase the early adventures of both Soldier Boy and Stormfront, played by Aya Cash.

Joining the cast of The Boys’ new spinoff are Mason Dye as Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel, and Will Hochman as Torpedo. KiKi Layne, Mark Pellegrino, Eric Johnson, David Hewlett, Josh Randall, and Cecily Strong will also appear. The first season of Vought Rising will have eight episodes, just like each season of The Boys.

I’m really excited for Vought Rising! They started filming last summer, so I’m hoping we’ll get to see it either later this year or early 2027. I’ve heard they might even start filming season two before season one comes out if the show does well, but we’ll probably find out more details in the next few months.

The fourth season of The Boys concluded by establishing a significant conflict for its final season: Homelander (Antony Starr) is now in control of the U.S. government. Season 5, bringing back Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, will premiere on Prime Video with two episodes on April 8th. After that, new episodes will be released every Wednesday.

While Prime Video is currently concentrating on the final season of The Boys, we can expect to hear more about Vought Rising soon. A trailer might be released this summer, offering a first look at the upcoming multi-season spin-off series.
