Sebastian Stan hits back at Marvel criticism
As a long-time Marvel fan and someone who’s had the privilege of witnessing the evolution of these superhero tales from the sidelines, I must say that Sebastian Stan‘s defense of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) resonates deeply with me.
Sebastian Stan has hit back at criticism of Marvel movies in a new interview.
In different Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and the TV series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” the actor portrays Bucky Barnes. He’s stepped up in support of the superhero series after a string of underwhelming episodes.
It’s now very simple to criticize Marvel movies, and that’s acceptable. Everyone has their own perspective,” he shared with Variety during a discussion about his portrayal of Donald Trump on The Apprentice.
“But they’re a big part of what contributes to this business and allows us to have smaller movies as well.”
Stan expressed the opinion that the Marvel Cinematic Universe contributes in numerous, often unrecognized ways, within a broader context of the film industry.
Occasionally, I feel guarded about it due to its noble purpose. However, creating a quality film repeatedly can be incredibly challenging, as he further explained.
In the forthcoming “Thunderbolts”, Stan is set to once again embody his Marvel character, as this storyline brings together a team composed of antiheroes and questionably virtuous figures, who are tasked with executing perilous assignments for the government.
In simpler terms, he characterized Bucky’s part in the film as similar to the character in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” This means Bucky entered a disorganized and degraded group and managed to bring unity among them.
In a fresh sneak peek, it was disclosed that the actual title of the upcoming movie, Thunderbolts*, includes an asterisk at the end.
Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has mentioned he won’t reveal the meaning until after the film’s premiere. One of the actors, David Harbour, stated he couldn’t share any more details, saying, “I can’t say anything else that won’t get me into trouble.
Meanwhile, spectators have enjoyed guessing what the asterisk might symbolize.
Thunderbolts* is released in cinemas on May 2, 2025.
