Strictly Come Dancing fans SLAM ‘ridiculous’ tradition after host Claudia Winkleman makes a surprise announcement
As a long-time fan of Strictly Come Dancing, I must say that this year’s competition has been nothing short of extraordinary. Watching Tom Fletcher and Nadiya Bychkova dance their way to the semi-finals was an absolute joy. Tom’s spirit and infectious energy were a delight to see every week, and it was clear that he gave his all on the dance floor.
Fans of Strictly Come Dancing were taken aback when Claudia Winkleman unexpectedly revealed something during her Sunday broadcast.
On the weekend, the BBC show resumed its run on television during the second week of a three-month-long contest.
Once all competitors who advanced to the subsequent stage settled onto the blue couch in the Clauditorium, host Claudia unveiled a significant surprise about the upcoming events of the next week.
Addressing professional dancer Gorka Marquez and his celebrity partner, Dr. Punam Krishan, she announced: ‘Gorka, it’s your pair who will be performing the inaugural Couples Choice dance for the series.’
Gorka, who’s been with Gemma Atkinson for six years now, mentioned: “We’re trying something new – this dance style is completely unprecedented.
Refusing to give anymore away, the other contestants shared their delight with a flurry of gasps.
On the other hand, not everyone approved of the decision to allow the couple’s choice early in the competition, and some viewers expressed their disapproval on platform X.

In series 16, the “Couples’ Choice” category debuted, allowing pairs to select among three distinct dance genres for their performance: contemporary, theater/jazz, or street/commercial dance styles.
From Series 19 onwards, the dancing duo was allowed to choose any style for their performance, as opposed to being confined to a particular type of dance prior to that series.
Moreover, during the results segment, spectators were equally taken aback as Olympic swimmer Tom Dean became the initial celebrity to depart from the dance contest.
24-year-old triple Olympic champion Tom and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova, aged 35, departed the contest after an intense dance-off against Toyah Willcox and her professional partner Neil Jones resulted in their elimination.
Following the second performance of each couple, Craig Revel Horwood made his decision and opted to keep Toyah and Neil in the competition.
Motsi Mabuse chose to save Toyah and Neil while Anton Du Beke chose to save Tom and Nadiya.
In a tight contest, Toyah and Neil received two votes each, while Tom and Nadiya got one vote. Ultimately, it was up to head judge Shirley Ballas to make the final decision, and she opted to keep Toyah and Neil in the competition.
As I reflect on my recent journey, I must confess that the past few weeks have been an absolute blast! Working alongside Nadiya has been nothing short of extraordinary.
‘I wish I could have gone further and done more dances.
This has been absolutely fantastic, I just can’t get enough! I really hope we can continue for even longer. I’m confident we’ll have plenty more brunch outings ahead.
Tom’s long-time dance partner, Nadiya, commented: “Beyond being a three-time Olympic champion, Tom is a genuine gentleman who showed me the importance of working tirelessly and giving my all.
“Fun fact, sometimes success isn’t about coming out on top, and that’s exactly how I feel about this journey this year.
Following an unusual remark by judge Craig Revel Horwood, some viewers ended up feeling queasy.
On Saturday evening, just moments before Tasha Ghouri and her partner Aljaž Škorjanec took to the floor for their Viennese Waltz performance, Craig had a conversation with host Tess Daly regarding their earlier dance.
Tess said: ‘There’s only really one way to describe our social media star, isn’t there, Craig?’
Craig replied: ‘Skibidi rizz, darling. Ski-bi-di rizz!’
As per Urban Dictionary, the term “Rizz” refers to the second-most prominent level of charm or charisma, a casual, youthful spin on the word.
The remaining 14 couples will take to the dancefloor next week for the Movie Week Special.
Other definitions include the ‘charisma displayed by a male to a female’ at the start of a conversation, whilst the whole term seems to just be a nonsense joke.
However, viewers expressed displeasure about what seemed like an effort to attract a younger demographic on social media, with many voicing their opinions.
On Monday, Tom and Nadiya are set to appear alongside Fleur East and Janette Manrara for a unique, live, first-time television interview on Strictly: It Takes Two.
