The Voice Australia coach LeAnn Rimes dramatically walks off set after refusing to eliminate favourite contestants: 'I don't like this'

As an ardent fan of The Voice, I’ve been captivated by the drama unfolding this season! LeAnn Rimes, a 90s country music sensation, has shown us a side we’ve never seen before – a compassionate coach who can’t bear to send talented singers home. Her life experience shines through as she grapples with tough decisions, and her unique approach to mentoring is a breath of fresh air.

In the heat of the competition, finding a fair choice between my beloved contestants became an impossible task. So, I stepped away from the stage, unable to decide which one to favor, LeAnn Rimes.

After witnessing the Battle Rounds featuring singers Brad Butcher and Tori Darke, the American vocalist abruptly left the scene.

The 42-year-old expressed that this task was challenging for her and she wasn’t enjoying it, showing signs of distress as she considered her next move.

‘I really don’t know. It’s really hard’ she continued, before getting up and leaving her chair.

‘Hold on. Hold on, hold on, hold on’ she said, the stunned everyone by walking off set.

LeAnn later returned with an offer – keeping both singers on as a duo instead of solo artists.

‘You don’t have to’ she said of her request to the two nervous singers.

As we navigate this together, it’s entirely up to you both to decide. However, in the event that you opt not to proceed as a pair, I’d find myself in a challenging position and would inevitably need to make a tough call, potentially asking one of you to depart today.

The pair were given a minute to think it over – before accepting to move forward together.

‘Surprise!!! Well that was an unexpected turn of events,’ Tori later wrote on social media.

Instead of finding another person who would be more suitable, I can’t imagine embarking on this thrilling journey with anyone other than my friend BradButcher_Music.

‘@leannrimes thank you for believing in us, we are gonna make you proud. LETS GO!’ she concluded.

It comes after LeAnn was pegged as a ‘one and done’ coach on The Voice Australia by TV insiders.

Following Daily Mail Australia’s disclosure that the ’90s country music sensation might consider her appearance on The Voice Australia as a trial run for the well-known UK version of the show, insiders hinted that Rimes may depart earlier rather than later.

This year, Rimes became a contestant on the television singing competition following Jessica Mauboy, British artist Rita Ora, and popular American composer Jason Derulo, who all vacated their iconic red seats.

Although “The Voice Australia” is showing strong competition against “The Block” in the prime-time ratings, industry experts believe that regular appearances by its new coach, LeAnn, in Australia might still not be guaranteed due to some uncertainties.

‘She could well be a ‘one and done’ coach,’ a TV insider told New Idea.

Thus far, she’s been having difficulty expressing herself distinctly in the show, as her co-coaches Guy Sebastian, Kate Miller-Heidke, and Adam Lambert engage in lively banter, often grabbing the best contestants.

Amongst the judges on the 2023 line-up of The Voice Australia, it’s Guy Sebastian – the victor of Australian Idol and a contestant in 2019 – who remains as the lone judge standing.

The production commenced in March; this was a time when Jess was on tour promoting her Yours Forever album, Rita had traveled to the United States to film the domestic adaptation of The Masked Singer following her addition to their judging panel, and Derulo was performing in Europe.

This year, LeAnn joined The Voice stage together with Guy and two other fresh coaches – Adam Lambert from America and Australia’s Kate Miller-Heidke.

It’s widely thought that the well-respected Australian pop artist Kate, known for her classical training, has taken over the role previously held by Jess as the symbol of the kind and approachable judge.

In a straightforward and conversational manner: Adam, the musician known for his song “Ghost Town,” who recently came to Sydney to perform at Mardi Gras in March, appears to be an ideal choice to fill Jason’s role as the world-renowned judge of hitmakers.

The magazine’s source noted that Adam is widely admired, as his success story demonstrates how one can sustain a career following a victory in a competition.

In 2009, the second-place finisher on American Idol embarked on a global tour with Roger Taylor and Brian May from the band Queen.

In essence, LeAnn serves as a stand-in for the 33-year-old British pop star, Rita, however, an issue arises due to the difference in their ages.

The source mentioned that some of the newer contestants on the program had been hesitant to pick LeAnn as their mentor at first, as they weren’t familiar with her identity.

In 1997, LeAnn’s popular song “How Do I Live” reached the top of charts worldwide, and in 2000, her hit single “Can’t Fight The Moonlight,” from the film Coyote Ugly, was released. These songs became well-known before some of this season’s younger contestants were even born.

As a devoted admirer, I must acknowledge that The Voice Australia has been consistently outshone in TV ratings by Nine’s home renovation series, The Block. Last week alone, The Block managed to captivate an average of 1.039 million viewers, while The Voice Australia could only draw 986,000.

Channel Seven will not yet comment whether there will be changes to show’s judging panel in 2025.
