As a seasoned gamer and Star Trek enthusiast with over three decades of my life intertwined with the galaxy far, far away, I must say that Star Trek: Prodigy has been a breath of fresh air. It’s not just about the stunning animation (which is top-notch), but the way it effortlessly introduces newcomers to the rich tapestry of Star Trek lore is nothing short of remarkable.
Star Trek: Prodigy is an outstanding animated show that seamlessly blends individual episodes with overarching storylines throughout the seasons. It’s a brilliant means of introducing newcomers to the Star Trek universe. Even if someone hasn’t watched Star Trek before, by finishing season two of Prodigy, they would have gained a solid understanding of the Federation and Starfleet, which are crucial for appreciating Star Trek as a whole.
Some individuals remain skeptical towards animation, regardless of its quality. Some devoted fans are reluctant to embrace it because they perceive it as non-canonical, despite being told otherwise. They yearn for live-action adaptations, desiring to witness real actors rather than just their voices. This preference is reasonable – people appreciate what resonates with them the most.

However, having an entire starship crew consisting only of alien Starfleet officers could offer a fresh perspective in live-action. Initially, these characters are ensigns, leaving room for growth and development. This setup might pose challenges when integrating established characters like Kate Mulgrew, Robert Beltran, and Robert Picardo into the new series, Prodigy. Yet, if Mulgrew and Beltran were to return together, Star Trek: Voyager fans would undoubtedly tune in, making this a potentially beneficial move for the show’s future.
