Downton Abbey star Elizabeth McGovern lands major new TV role

As a devoted fan of period dramas and intriguing storylines, I am absolutely thrilled about Elizabeth McGovern‘s new role in “The Talamasca”! Her exceptional performance as Cora Crawley in Downton Abbey has been a joy to witness, and I can’t wait to see her bring her talents to this mysterious and supernatural series.

Actress Elizabeth McGovern, who gained fame as a star of Downton Abbey, has secured a significant new television role, becoming part of the cast for The Talamasca.

According to “The Hollywood Reporter”, McGovern is set to team up with Nicholas Denton and William Fichtner in a six-part series. This series is part of AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe, which includes “Interview With The Vampire” and “Mayfair Witches”.

Drawing inspiration from the writings of Anne Rice, our story, The Talamasca, will delve into the enigmatic society bearing the same name. This secretive group consists of individuals tasked with monitoring and controlling the distribution of witches, vampires, and other supernatural beings dispersed throughout the world.

In the upcoming series, “The Talamasca,” it’s said that McGovern will portray Helen, a long-standing member and head of the New York branch of this organization. Helen is characterized as an experienced and esteemed figure within the Talamasca.

The character is hinted to have harbored suspicions for quite some time that London’s Motherhouse might be infiltrated by treacherous forces. A puzzling demise sparks her decision to take on Guy Anatole as her protege, according to the portrayal.

In the upcoming production, Denton and Fichtner will take on the roles of Guy Anatole and Jasper respectively. John Lee Hancock, renowned for movies like “Saving Mr. Banks” and “The Founder”, will direct all six episodes. Additionally, Hancock will work jointly with Mark Lafferty as the show’s main director.

Excitedly speaking, I can’t wait for next year when the screen will once again welcome The Talamasca, as work is in progress on Downton Abbey’s third movie. Recently, our beloved Hugh Bonneville hinted that this installment might just surpass its predecessors, promising it to be “the best one yet”.

He suggested that his character typically exhibits a pattern where he’s essentially a dinosaur resistant to change, dragged unwillingly towards the future. However, over time, he takes small steps forward. This is similar to the consistent rhythm in which changes happen gradually, like the slow movement of glaciers.

He added that “it’s time to move the story on, so to speak”.

The actor expressed his opinion, saying, “There’s just so much warmth, excitement, and freshness to look forward to, with some surprises thrown in – things I won’t give away – that I truly believe this will be the finest adaptation of the films we’ve seen so far.

Currently, there’s no announced release date for the next Talamasca installment. On the other hand, Downton Abbey: A New Era is now available for purchase as a digital download. In the meantime, production on a third film is underway.
