As a long-time admirer of Prince and someone who grew up listening to his unique blend of rock, R&B, soul, disco, and hip hop, I find myself deeply saddened by this ongoing dispute over the upcoming Netflix docuseries about his life.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of “Purple Rain” – both the movie and its soundtrack – Prince’s iconic purple home located in Minneapolis, Minnesota will be listed on Airbnb for rental.

Back in 2015, just one short year before my world was shattered by the untimely loss of this musical legend due to a fatal fentanyl overdose, I can’t help but feel a strange sense of connection to the fact that he had already acquired this very property. It’s as if he had a premonition, or perhaps just a deep-rooted love for this place.

Despite being closed to the public for the last nine years, his Revolution bandmates will be welcoming some fortunate fans inside next month.

Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman will be ‘hosting the overnight stay,’ according to TMZ.

The women shared that it was fortunate for us to be involved in the vibrant rock music scene of Minneapolis during a crucial period, performing with Prince in one of the era’s most influential bands, and acting together in the Purple Rain movie, with him, for Airbnb.

Guests will also have unprecedented access to the art and music of Purple Rain.

This recently renovated, eye-catching residence boasts several distinctive elements, such as purple velvet wallcoverings, a retro 1980s sound system, an antique claw-foot bathtub, drum sets, and colorful stained-glass panes.

Fans will also be able to get a look of his closet full of his most legendary outfits.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share an exciting revelation about unique experiences you might encounter when using Airbnb! Hidden within some of these extraordinary homes lies a secret room brimming with treasures, just waiting for the right guest to find it. But, here’s the catch – this treasure trove can only be accessed through a clandestine door, making your discovery all the more rewarding!

25 one-night stays are open for booking from October 2nd at 6:00 AM Pacific Time, until October 6th at 11:59 PM Pacific Time, on airbnb.com/prince. The booking period ends when the requests close.

The stays will occur between October 26 to December 14 for up to four guests.

Each stay will be priced at $7 per person, Prince’s favorite number.

Guests will be randomly selected.

This year, it became known that a theatrical version based on Prince’s legendary album and movie, “Purple Rain,” was scheduled to debut in his birthplace, Minneapolis, in the upcoming year, followed by a move to Broadway.

In February, the announcement was collectively made by Orin Wolf (the producer), L. Londell McMillan (former manager of Prince), and Larry Mestel (CEO of Primary Wave Music). They jointly released a statement about it.

For a long time, Prince discussed transforming ‘Purple Rain’ into a stage production. It seems appropriate that we debut this new musical interpretation in the place where it originated – Prince’s birthplace, Minneapolis.

We’re thrilled to see the creative team drawing inspiration from Minneapolis’ distinctive sound, particularly the spirit that Prince embodied, which is truly one-of-a-kind.

According to Todd Duesing, President and CEO of the Hennepin Theatre Trust, as reported by Star Tribune, Minneapolis is the place where all wonderful things associated with Prince originated. His essence, vitality, and enduring impact continue to resonate within our city’s people.

Lileana Blain-Cruz is set to oversee the production of a play that follows the narrative of a burgeoning rock artist, known as The Kid, who navigates his way through a tumultuous home life, fierce competition from another band, and a budding relationship in the vibrant Minneapolis music scene.

In 1984, the groundbreaking rock musical movie that carried a score and featured Prince’s first acting role was distributed by Warner Bros.

It was directed by Albert Magnoli and written by Magnoli and William Blinn.

The film grossed close to $100 million worldwide and won the Oscar for Best Original Score.

The soundtrack features classics including I Would Die 4 U, Let’s Go Crazy, and When Doves Cry.

Apart from reaching the top spot on the Billboard 200 for an impressive 24 weeks, the soundtrack album also earned recognition with two Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, and two Brit Awards.

In the year 2016, Prince unfortunately passed away due to a fatal Fentanyl overdose that he administered himself. His passing was determined to be an unintentional incident, and the only cause mentioned on the medical examiner’s report was ‘Fentanyl intoxication’.

The autopsy findings indicated that the deceased singer stood at five feet three inches tall and weighed only 112 pounds. At the time of his discovery in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate near Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 21, he was fully dressed in black attire, including a cap, pants, shirt, socks, and boxer briefs. His body was found unresponsive.

Prince, over the span of four decades, fused genres such as rock, R&B, soul, disco, and hip-hop in a distinctive manner that resulted in him selling more than 100 million records. His exceptional talent was recognized with seven Grammy Awards.

In July, it was reported Prince’s estate had not agreed to sign off on a years-in-the-making docuseries at Netflix due to its nine-hour length.

Despite reports suggesting that the streaming service remains optimistic about reaching an accord, the estate of the pop icon believes that the final edit by Ezra Edelman breaches their original contract.

Back in 2018, two years following the unfortunate death of Prince due to an overdose of fentanyl at the age of 57, the estate agreed to a plan for a six-hour series.

Currently, it appears that the negotiations between the streamer and estate have reached an impasse, as Edelman, aged 49, allegedly has no interest in a shortened adaptation of the movie.

Originally, Ava DuVernay, a previous Academy Award nominee, had been appointed as the director. However, around four years ago, someone else, Edelman, stepped in to take over the directorial role instead.

According to Puck’s report, the precise reasons for their discontent remain uncertain, but a certain source claims it isn’t issues related to drug revelations or explicit content. Instead, they argue that the movie contains factual inaccuracies.

Until they come to a compromise, it is alleged that the documentary is being ‘held hostage.’

In the meantime, Edelman finished the project and reportedly held viewings for relatives and acquaintances last year.

In addition to other complexities, it’s important to note that Prince’s estate was split into two parts in 2022. Consequently, the director requires consent from both parties (Prince’s relatives and those who handle his rights) before making any decisions.

According to a source close to the music industry, it’s the responsibility of Prince’s administrators to handle his legacy carefully, like handling delicate items with care, and overall, they are very particular about every detail.

‘Prince was always meticulous about releasing only top-quality work, ensuring everything he put out was polished and perfect. His estate continues to uphold this same high level of quality.’

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share this intriguing tidbit: This insider asserted that the present iteration of the project falls short in capturing the true essence of the iconic Prince.

The property anticipates the documentary will be unveiled when it’s fully prepared, allowing everyone to honor his exceptional life and accomplishments.
