BLAST requests a “formal investigation” by ESIC into Astralis’ emergency substitution at BLAST Premier Fall Final

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt and countless hours spent watching CS:GO tournaments, I must say that the ongoing saga between Astralis and BLAST Premier Fall Final is far from amusing. The constant back-and-forth and conflicting information has left me feeling like a spectator in a never-ending reality TV show.

This matter is far from ending.

blast_official announces that they have asked the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) to conduct a thorough examination, or formal investigation, regarding Astralis’ unexpected player swap during the BLAST Premier Fall Final CS:2 tournament, which was made public on September 27th.

One day after Astralis ended up in last place at the BLAST Premier Fall Final following defeats against Team Spirit and Vitality, they faced criticism all week over their use of Casper “cadiaN” Møller as an emergency replacement for Alexander “br0” Bro, who the team stated was unable to play.

The conflict arises because Fabian Broch, representing br0, stated that the player is completely fit and prepared for action, which goes against Astralis’ stance. This led the other seven IGLs participating in the tournament to stage a boycott of BLAST’s media day on September 24 and publish an open letter expressing their disapproval over BLAST allowing cadiaN to play.

The situation regarding Astralis’ urgent substitute request has been fluid, with varying pieces of information being presented to BLAST, leading to some confusion.

Over the past few days, we’ve had crucial talks with Astralis and their players’ representatives in an attempt to bring clarity to the current situation. However, it seems that our views on the matter differ significantly.

As a result, we have requested ESIC to conduct a formal investigation into the matter.”

BLAST’s last statement on Astralis’ emergency substitute

Initially, I was taken aback when BLAST claimed they hadn’t received any reasons or questions regarding Astralis. But things took a turn when fellow pro gamers joined forces and staged a protest on media day. This definitely got my attention!

FaZe’s rifleman, Håvard “rain” Nygaard, expressed strong criticism towards BLAST’s decision that allowed Astralis to temporarily replace cadiaN.

According to Rain, BLAST might not project a positive image for the upcoming season as teams select events, and it seems that they are unintentionally hurting themselves with their current actions. In essence, it’s a poor decision, to put it bluntly.

What comes next?

In the meantime, it’s ESIC who will probe Astralis and render a decision. Whether or not Astralis faces penalties remains uncertain, considering that the sports regulatory body has been inconsistent in enforcing penalties throughout recent years.
