Wolfs ending explained: Do the fixers survive?

As a longtime fan of gritty crime dramas and a connoisseur of dynamic duos, I must say that “Wolfs” has truly captured my heart (and my nerves!). The chemistry between George Clooney and Brad Pitt is nothing short of electric, and their characters’ complex relationship adds depth to the story.

Wolfs ending spoilers follow.

In their latest venture, George Clooney and Brad Pitt join forces as two troubleshooters who experience an extremely lengthy night in the new Apple TV+ thriller titled “Wolves”.

In a hotel room belonging to Margaret, a district attorney, the two unidentified individuals, referred to as Margaret’s Associate (Clooney) and Pam’s Associate (Pitt), are jointly summoned to handle a grim situation: the discovery of a corpse. This unexpected circumstance compels them to collaborate despite their separate affiliations.

Yet, trouble arises as they find a stash of illegal substances in the hotel room, and to their shock, the presumed deceased individual is still alive. But what’s the connection between these events and why do they seem to be implicated?

Let’s delve into the surprising finale of the series Wolfs, to clarify precisely what transpired during that closing scene and determine if the characters portrayed as ‘fixers’ made it through the night.

Major spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen the movie yet.

In a similar fashion, the individual in the hotel room, who is never explicitly named but referred to as Kid (portrayed by Austin Abrams), shares details with the pair once they manage to corner him. He confides that he procured the drugs from Lagrange, who is known to be the city’s most prominent drug trafficker.

The child didn’t obtain them directly from Lagrange, instead getting them from a classmate named Diego. It is said that Diego required the child’s assistance because he had to perform a task for Lagrange, as Diego claimed his mother had passed away.

While anticipating the signal pager for the location of the drop, Kid sought some Dutch fortitude at a bar close by. It was there that he encountered Margaret and received an invitation to her room. This encounter led him to sample some of the drugs himself, ultimately resulting in his fainting spell.

To tidy things up, the fixers choose to have Kid carry out the prearranged drug delivery by retrieving Diego’s pager at a nearby club. The delivery location is a warehouse, and although they are hesitant about his odds of success, they allow Kid to enter alone.

It was appropriate for them to take action since, not long after he entered, the Albanian drug cartel – known as the primary suppliers in the city – appeared. Earlier in the film, we learned that some of their drugs had been stolen, and it appears this whole situation was a setup aimed at identifying who had taken the drugs.

A gun battle breaks out in the warehouse as the middlemen encounter issues elsewhere. Upon entering the building, they discover everyone else has been killed, yet mysteriously, Kid managed to stay alive by concealing himself within the trunk of a limousine.

As they’re setting up the scene to conceal their part in things, Pam’s companion fires one of the drug packages, unveiling a tracker secretly placed within it. This is what tipped off the gang about their whereabouts.

After dropping off Kid, everything appeared normal. But as the team gathered at their customary post-operation diner for breakfast, they started to notice that something felt amiss about the previous night’s events.

It appears that the men associated with Margaret and Pam share a common manager, who orchestrated everything behind the scenes. This hidden figure had devised a scheme to implicate Lagrange for stealing drugs from the Albanians, thus eliminating competition and establishing a near-monopoly in the city’s criminal activities.

When Kid appeared to be deceased, he quickly devised a plan to act swiftly, directing both fixers to execute the drug transaction in his place. By setting the tracker to activate upon receiving the drop location via the message, he aimed to gather everyone, instigate a major gunfight, and ensure no one escaped unscathed.

Unforeseen to him, the fixers chose not to take the fall for the Kid by making the delivery themselves. As a result, rather than being eliminated as initially intended by their supervisor, they became loose ends – left unresolved or hanging.

However, given his close relationships with both fixers, the climactic scene of “Wolfs” unfolds with the diner under siege by heavily armed henchmen. As tension mounts, Margaret’s Man and Pam’s Man brace themselves for a fierce fight, as “Wolfs” comes to an abrupt end, marking the start of a shoot-out.

So, did they actually survive? Well, we think we have an answer for that.

Will there be a Wolfs sequel?

If you had concerns about the future of the fixers, it appears those worries can be eased because a follow-up to the “Wolves” series is currently being developed.

In August 2024, Apple revealed their decision to stream the release of Wolfs, which was accompanied by the thrilling tidbit that Apple Originals had secured an agreement with filmmaker Jon Watts for him to script, helm, and produce a follow-up movie.

As a gamer, I’ve got some exciting news! Deadline reported that the upcoming project could be a new adventure for Clooney and Pitt, hinting at a possible sequel. Yet, it’s interesting to note that Watts didn’t originally plan this movie as a sequel. So, while we can assume the fixers might return, it’s still unclear whether this is part two or an entirely new storyline.

Ever since I submitted my work back in December, Apple has been chatting me up about a potential sequel. It’s something we’ve been tossing around ideas for quite some time now. Contrary to what you might think, I didn’t pen the movie with a sequel in sight, that’s just how the conversation has been unfolding.

However, creating it was quite enjoyable, so I’m not sure, but perhaps you could leave it up to the viewers to decide whether they’d like to see more.

There’s a chance it might be a precursor to “Wolfs” and, as portrayed in the film, they met their demise. Yet, our speculation leans towards them extricating themselves from this predicament and, perhaps unwillingly, reuniting for another joint endeavor.

Wolfs is now available to watch on Apple TV+.
