‘DWTS’ pro Artem Chigvintsev dodges domestic violence charges: ‘Incredibly relieved’
As a seasoned cinephile with a keen eye for the nuances of reality television, I must admit that the recent turn of events surrounding Artem Chigvintsev has left me both intrigued and disheartened. His arrest and subsequent acquittal have painted a complex picture of the man behind the dance moves, a picture that seems to be shifting with each new development.
After a month since his arrest, former “Dancing With the Stars” professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev is no longer facing domestic violence charges. He expressed feelings of great relief and gratitude.
In a Tuesday statement, Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley explained that her office chose not to press criminal charges against the ballroom professional and TV personality due to a comprehensive investigation and careful examination of the presented evidence. The district attorney’s office stated that they are unable to file domestic violence charges ethically without sufficient proof.
2014 marked the start of Chigvintsev’s stint on “DWTS”. On August 29, he was taken into custody in Yountville, California, allegedly following a 911 call. His arrest records in Napa County referenced the California law that punishes individuals who intentionally cause bodily harm resulting in injury, as stated in the penal code, towards a spouse, former spouse, partner living together, fiancé or fiancée, an ex-romantic partner, or co-parent.
There’s no clear indication if Nikki Garcia (previously Nikki Bella, the former WWE wrestler) was part of the domestic violence incident. The DA’s office has kept silent on further details about the case, such as the name of the suspected victim.
Weeks following my former dance partner’s arrest, I, the “So You Think You Can Dance” alum, chose to file divorce papers. We had been married since 2022 and were blessed with a son in July 2020. At the time of this article, my representative has yet to provide comment on the matter as reported by The Times.
42-year-old Chigvintsev was freed on a $25,000 bond the very day of his arrest. The performer who hails from the Soviet Union expressed gratitude for the district attorney’s decision in an Instagram series of stories on Wednesday evening. “This has been a challenging period for me,” he penned down. “I am relieved that the truth has emerged victorious.
Despite being involved in a domestic violence case, Chigvintsev emphasized that his primary concern has and will always be his son with Garcia. The dancer also expressed his desire for shared custody with Garcia (aged 40) and pledged to offer their toddler the love, assistance, and care required as they navigate the future together.
He wrapped up by saying, “I’m excited about leaving this phase behind and putting more emphasis on becoming the finest dad possible.
It appears that Chigvintsev is currently not facing any charges, but the District Attorney’s office has left open the possibility to reconsider the domestic violence case within the legal timeframe if they become aware of additional incidents or discover new facts and evidence that were not previously known.
