NASCAR: Full qualifying order revealed for Kansas playoff race
As a seasoned gamer with decades of virtual racing under my belt, I can confidently say that the NASCAR Cup Series is a whole new ball game. The sheer size and power of those machines is something you just can’t replicate on your Xbox!
This upcoming Sunday afternoon, the Kansas Speedway will be playing host to the inaugural race of the 12-round playoffs for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, following a thrilling regular season event held there back in early May, which boasted the closest finish ever seen in the Cup Series.
If Chris Buescher from RFK Racing had managed to fend off Kyle Larson from Hendrick Motorsports during the final stretch, he would have earned a spot in the playoffs. His victory at Watkins Glen International two weeks back would have then secured him a place in the round of 12. Unfortunately, he fell short and missed out on qualifying for the postseason.
Twelve drivers remain in contention for the 2024 championship as we approach this upcoming Sunday’s 267-lap race, the Hollywood Casino 400 sponsored by ESPN BET, taking place at the 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Kansas City Speedway with its four turns.
For the one-car qualifying round, drivers are divided into two separate categories based on a system that uses four factors (more details provided elsewhere). In these groups, you’ll find six drivers competing for the playoffs, while those no longer in contention for the championship are placed in the groups first.
In contrast to the Cup Series race at Kansas in May, the second round this time will follow a group-based format, with the top five drivers from each group progressing to this stage.
