Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa debuts unexpected new role
As a fan of both Jade Thirlwall and Ncuti Gatwa, I can honestly say that their collaboration on “Midnight Cowboy” has been the highlight of my week! It’s like watching Eric Effiong take over the TARDIS and it’s absolutely fabulous.
Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa has debuted an unexpected new role.
In the new single “Midnight Cowboy,” the actor, famously known for his character Eric Effiong in Sex Education, makes a notable appearance alongside singer Jade Thirlwall.
The popular R&B song, jointly penned by BRIT Award laureate Raye, follows Thirlwall’s triumphant solo introduction in July. Notably, “Angel Of My Dreams” has been recognized by Billboard as one of the top singles launched this year.
In a new track, Gatwa serves as the host, kicking off with a greeting that goes like this: “Ladies, gentlemen, all and everyone. Buckle up, the show is about to start!
Throughout the tune, the star frequently interrupts, as described by Thirlwall as a “seductive, subtle, bass-rich song that expresses the concept of embracing one’s sensuality and the skills that accompany it.
Later on, the musician composed a heartfelt homage to Gatwa on Instagram, stating: “A huge gratitude to @ncutigatwa for joining the song – you were absolutely spot-on.
To celebrate the release of the song, Gatwa also took to Instagram on Monday (September 23) to post a video of himself and the former Little Mix star lip syncing and bopping along to the tune. “Giddy up,” read the post’s caption.
Enthusiasts swiftly flooded the comment area expressing their joy about the partnership, as one put it: “Never before has such an iconic level been achieved… until this moment.
“PERFECT DUO! Jade needs a trip in the Tardis,” another added.
A third supporter expressed a similar feeling, saying: “My realms are overlapping,” while another commented: “This pair was unexpectedly essential to me.
After the premiere of his initial season as “Doctor Who” earlier this year, Gatwa is now gearing up to perform on the London stage for the National Theatre’s remake of “The Importance of Being Earnest”.
The upcoming play featuring Hugh Skinner and Eliza Scanlen is scheduled to run from November through January. However, audiences will have the opportunity to view this production starting from February 20th, as it becomes a part of National Theatre Live screenings nationwide.
Before hitting the stage, Gatwa is set to appear on The Graham Norton Show next month for a discussion about his theater role and future travels in the TARDIS.
In the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas special named “Joy to the World,” the actor is set to embark on another space adventure. This special episode will introduce Nicola Coughlan, famous for her role in Bridgerton, as the main character, Joy.
In the United Kingdom, you can catch Doctor Who on BBC One, while viewers from other regions can find it on Disney+. For those in the UK, there’s also the option to watch classic episodes of Doctor Who on BBC iPlayer.
