Honey I Shrunk the Kids icon Rick Moranis surfaces in rare sighting in NYC ahead of big screen comeback

Rick Moranis, best known for his role in “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” was recently spotted looking relaxed in New York City. This sighting comes as fans eagerly anticipate his return to acting after a long break from the big screen.

After his wife, Ann Belsky, passed away from breast cancer in 1991, Bob Moranis, now 72, stepped back from acting to concentrate on raising his children.

His most recent live-action film was 1997’s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, but he’s continued to do voice work in various projects, keeping him active for fans.

Recently, it was revealed that he’ll be appearing in Spaceballs 2, the long-awaited sequel to Mel Brooks’ hilarious 1987 Star Wars parody, Spaceballs.

When Moranis appeared in New York this week, he was wearing a comfortable blue sweater and fashionable light grey pants.

I always notice how effortlessly cool he looks. Even just walking around, he’s instantly recognizable – a baseball cap pulled low, those classic tortoiseshell glasses, and usually a jacket casually draped over his arm. It’s a simple look, but totally him.

Moranis and his wife, a costume designer, were married for five years before her untimely death at age 34. He was then left to raise their two children, Rachel and Mitchell.

Before taking a break, Moranis was a very busy actor in Hollywood. In fact, he had three movies released in 1989: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Ghostbusters II, and Parenthood.

After becoming a single parent, he largely withdrew from public life, though he still participated in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movies.

A follow-up film, Honey I Blew Up the Kid, was released in 1992. Moranis’ next live-action movie, Honey We Shrunk Ourselves, came out on video in 1997.

He didn’t completely leave the entertainment industry, releasing a playfully humorous country album, The Agoraphobic Cowboy, in 2005. Then, eight years later, he put out another album called My Mother’s Brisket and Other Love Songs.

He occasionally provided voice work for the two Brother Bear films and the video release Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys.

News broke in 2019 that he would be returning to film in a live-action remake of ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,’ titled ‘Shrunk’.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 lockdowns began the next year and completely paused the project, and it hasn’t been able to restart since.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE what happened to Bob Moranis! Late in 2020, when things were already so scary in New York with everything going on, some random person just…punched him out of nowhere while he was walking down the street! I was absolutely devastated for him. It was awful, and everyone felt so bad for him – he didn’t deserve that at all! I was seriously worried about him.

It was confirmed last year that Bob Moranis would be part of the cast for the next film by 99-year-old Mel Brooks, who is known for his classic sci-fi comedy, Spaceballs.

The 1987 film starred Bob Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet, a humorous take on Darth Vader, alongside John Candy, Bill Pullman, and Joan Rivers.

John Candy and Harold Ramis have passed away, but Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson will be back for the next movie, along with original cast members Daphne Zuniga and George Wyner.

The cast of Spaceballs 2 will include Keke Palmer, Josh Gad, Anthony Carrigan, and Lewis Pullman, son of Bill Pullman, according to Deadline.
