As a die-hard fan who grew up watching Joan Rivers on Fashion Police and her hilarious red carpet commentary, I can confidently say that her spirit lives on through her daughter Melissa and the memories she created for generations of fans. The River Club celebration honoring Scott Currie was not just a birthday bash, but a tribute to the legacy of a woman who revolutionized the way we look at fashion and celebrity culture.

Melissa Rivers, Joan Rivers’ daughter, ensured her mother’s vibrant essence lived on as they celebrated Scott Currie’s milestone 60th birthday at the River Club situated in New York City.

At the festivities, the late comedian’s sole offspring, aged 56, affectionately referred to Currie as the “son his mother always wished she had.

She shared stories about her mother’s habit of stealing items from hotels and eateries, as reported by Page Six.

Melissa pondered that the untended cleaning cart was like a precious find for Joan, who sadly passed away in 2014 following a routine endoscopy procedure.

To pay tribute to the well-known figure, renowned for her bold wit and sharp fashion critique, both Melissa and Currie inspired their 90 party attendees to “help themselves to anything that isn’t firmly fixed.

Besides Melissa and her partner Steve Mitchel, the guest list also featured Martha Stewart, Dorinda Medley, Greg Calejo, Baruch Shemtov, Erik Bottcher, Elie Tahari, Candace Bushnell, Peggy Siegel, Stephen Baldwin, and others.

The menus paid tribute to Joan by including her famous quote, “My Bible is autographed,” on them.

Apart from being renowned for her side-splitting and awe-inspiring comedy, Rivers was also widely recognized for her stint on the popular E! show, Fashion Police, as well as her iconic red carpet comments and interviews.

The famed comedienne had people roaring with laughter as she spoke about the red carpet looks of A-listers like Kim Kardashian, Heidi Klum, and Nicole Kidman – just to name a few.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been absolutely captivated by the glamour and magic of the red carpet, thanks to the incredible duo of Joan and her daughter. Year after year, they’ve managed to transform this once mundane event into an unforgettable spectacle that’s hard not to get hooked on. In fact, I find myself debating whether the enchantment of the red carpet or the awards shows themselves is more captivating!

In 1994, Joan single-handedly welcomed the Golden Globes red carpet for the E! network, but in 1995, she teamed up with Melissa for the Oscars.

Indeed, a significant aspect of their legacy includes the creation and production of ‘Fashion Police,’ a renowned television program that graced the screens of E! network for more than two decades, from 1995 to 2017. Joan was one of its co-creators, while Melissa played the role of producer.

The humorous program that offered insightful remarks about celebrities’ style choices proved popular with enthusiasts of pop culture as well as those not typically interested in it.

Following her mother’s death, Melissa took on the role as co-host for the show, sharing the stage with Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski.

A few weeks ago, Melissa shared her belief with DailyMail.com that Joan, if alive today, wouldn’t appreciate the current trend of cancel culture in fashion criticism and broader contexts.

Melissa stated that her action was mocking it, essentially suggesting that we can’t even find humor in situations,” she explained.

And, while Melissa herself is a fan of the inclusive nature in fashion these days, she still wants people to remember that at the end of the day, it’s something that is supposed to be ‘fun.’

Once more, it’s about fashion – and I adore its embrace of diversity and body positivity, I truly do. It’s wonderful to see something and recognize oneself, I believe this is a massive leap forward. Yet, let me remind you, it’s still the realm of fashion.

Joan’s daughter expressed that it should be enjoyable, entertaining, motivational, and uplifting, and it’s meant to make one feel good. However, when people start getting overly serious about everything, anxiety and self-doubt are added into the mix, and she believes the balance has become too extreme.

Melissa stated to DailyMail.com, “You realize, our red carpet event was more than just a representation on the runways of fashion magazines; I believe we significantly transformed red carpet fashion and celebrities’ attire. It’s not only my personal opinion, but also because I am one of its producers and creators.

Additionally, Melissa mentioned that they felt fortunate since some of the individuals they had been conversing with at the red carpet event were turning into prominent A-list celebrities and style icons, or as one might put it, fashion influencers.

In simpler terms, she said, ‘It was like capturing magic in a bottle, with these women who adored and grasped fashion, creating an incredible surge we could all surf on.’

Melissa added, “First came the emergence of the stylist, followed by numerous collaborations and individuals identifying with a specific designer. It’s quite entertaining, she concluded.

Reflecting on it now, I can proudly claim it as a piece of her enduring impact, while also cherishing the thought that it contributes in some small way to the collective memories we’re building together.
