‘Terribly sad’ – Robert Peston splits with love he found after wife died

TV personality Robert Peston was deeply saddened when his wife, author Sian Busby, passed away from lung cancer in 2012 at the age of 51.

He was deeply saddened and confessed to feeling intensely guilty about falling in love with Charlotte Edwardes, a journalist he worked with.

Sadly, Peston is nursing a broken heart again, as he and Charlotte have split up.

‘It’s terribly sad but they just couldn’t make it work any longer,’ a friend tells me.

They were one of the London media’s ‘power couples’.

They first met while working at The Sunday Telegraph, but their relationship didn’t begin until a Christmas party in 2017. He later admitted to initiating their first date, saying he felt incredibly shy and like he was back in his teenage years.

Robert Peston, a 65-year-old political editor for ITV News, has been living with Charlotte, age 50, since 2018. He also hosts the weekly political show, Peston.

She and her ex-husband have three children together. Peston has a son from a previous relationship with his late wife, Sian, and also a stepson from her earlier marriage.

Charlotte, a first-time novelist whose book ‘Trouble Was’ comes out in July, apparently knew very little about his life before they met. He explained that what struck him about Charlotte was her complete lack of interest in his past as a widower or his career. He felt she was unlike anyone he’d dated recently, as she didn’t seem to focus on those aspects of his life at all.

He also mentioned that after his wife passed away, some women pursued him aggressively. He described this as a form of stalking, noting that while women often discuss this experience, it happens to men too, and it’s important to be cautious.

Peston will say only: ‘Charlotte and I remain very good friends.’

She declined to comment.
