Phillip Schofield makes a dramatic return to TV after secretly filming a new show on a remote island – 16 months after off-screen affair led to ITV axe
As a follower who has witnessed Phillip Schofield‘s illustrious career spanning over four decades, I must admit that his return to mainstream TV after such a tumultuous period is a sight to behold. His life experience, marked by highs and lows, has undeniably shaped him into the resilient personality he is today.
After a 16-month hiatus, Philip Schofield is making his comeback to prime-time television with a brand-new series. He left ‘This Morning’ back then.
The presenter has secretly filmed Channel 5 special Cast Away, in which he lives on a tropical island in the Indian Ocean for 10 days.
62-year-old Schofield plans to share insights about his contentious exit from ITV, all while surviving independently on an island situated near Madagascar’s coast.
Spectators will watch as the dismissed host delves into the emotional repercussions of being ousted from prime-time television following the public revelation of his romantic involvement with a 20-year-old athlete during the afternoon program, “This Morning.
According to a source, over the last couple of months, Philip has received numerous proposals for different opportunities, yet he’s consistently declined each one.
‘This sort of challenge has always appealed to him though and after consulting with friends and family, he decided to go for it. It’s all been top secret, and has been an incredibly quick turnaround in order to keep the news quiet.
After spending 42 years on television, Philip has gleaned valuable insights about filming and storytelling from exceptional crews and teams.
Over these past ten blissful days, without a single camera crew or production in sight, I seized the opportunity to capture some breathtakingly raw and authentic footage. Some of it is incredibly intense and evokes strong emotions – a testament to the powerful moments I’ve managed to preserve.
However, he sought the opportunity to express himself openly and truthfully, allowing viewers to perceive an alternate perspective of him.
Although this development is a significant achievement for Channel 5 and a big step for Philip, he’s not planning to return to television full-time immediately. He’s still recovering from the experience and is using this time to carefully consider his next steps before making any important decisions.
Starting on Monday night, the three-part show will broadcast on Channel 5, marking Schofield’s return to television after parting ways with This Morning in 2023.
In May of 2023, during an appearance on This Morning, the presenter confessed to being in a romantic relationship with a younger male coworker, which he had previously kept hidden. Later, it was also revealed that he had lied about this fact.
In my personal experience, I once found myself in a situation that, looking back, wasn’t the wisest decision, yet it was never illegal. This transpired during my almost three decades of marriage to Stephanie Lowe, who is the mother of my two beautiful children.
Later on, Schofield stepped down from both This Morning and ITV, expressing his deep apologies to Lowe for his infidelity.
Initially, it was shared that Steph was deeply saddened and enraged upon discovering the truth about her spouse’s deception.
However, it was later revealed she is choosing not to file for divorce because she does not want him to ‘fall any further’ then he already has, and despite everything, ‘the love is still very much there.’
