Traffic rocker Dave Mason cancels tour to begin treatment for ‘serious heart condition’
As a dedicated follower of rock ‘n’ roll history, I find myself deeply saddened by the news that Dave Mason, a true legend and founding member of Traffic, has to cancel his 2024 tour due to health concerns. At 78 years old, this man has shared the stage with giants like Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, and Fleetwood Mac, and his unique voice and guitar skills have left an indelible mark on the music industry.
Originally a member of the band Traffic and an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Dave Mason has decided to temporarily step away from his musical career to prioritize his well-being.
On Monday, the 78-year-old English musician revealed he’s postponing his Traffic Jam 2024 West Coast tour due to a critical heart issue that urgently needs medical care. He shared this update across his social media platforms and website.
According to a message from Mason, his medical team suggested he avoid all concerts, as reported earlier. This announcement followed Mason’s adjustment of his initial tour plans to cater to his health requirements, which were made just a few days ago. Last week, Mason shared on Instagram that the tour would start in Santa Barbara instead of the previously planned shows in Phoenix and Las Vegas. The statement explained this decision was based on medical advice from doctors.
Back in April, as a passionate filmgoer, I found myself eagerly awaiting a concert by an iconic guitarist whose collaborations span legends like Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, and more musical titans. Unfortunately, the anticipated performance in Cincinnati had to be postponed due to a bout of laryngitis.
As a movie-loving critic, I’m sharing some bittersweet news about one of my favorite artists: The man behind the melodies of “Feelin’ Alright” and “We Just Disagree” is preparing for heart surgery, as announced this week. His family and team are optimistic that he will make a full recovery. Unfortunately, his tour has been postponed until 2025. Here’s to wishing him a swift and successful healing process, and I can’t wait to see him back on stage again!
Mason expressed his deep regret for needing to call off the scheduled meetings, as it’s his doctor’s advice. However, he assured everyone that he would return stronger than before in the year 2025.
On Instagram, Mason expressed his gratitude for celebrating another birthday in May, stating that he is “delightfully surprised, particularly because I’m still here, a testament to the gift of life.” Known for his musical talents, this artist started his career as a young musician and, along with Jim Capaldi, Steve Winwood, and Chris Wood, founded Traffic in 1967.
The musician commented, “Every day brings a chuckle at the memories and a deep sense of gratitude for your part in my musical journey and life.
