Paramount+ has officially canceled the show before its second season could air. Many fans are upset by the decision and have started a petition hoping to revive the series.
A petition asking Paramount+ to renew Star Trek: Academy for a third season is gaining traction. It has already collected over 6,000 signatures in just a few days, and the number is still growing as more fans find out about it. It’s unclear if this will be enough to change Paramount+’s mind, but the petition is showing increasing support.
Was Starfleet Academy Canceled Too Soon?
As a huge fan, I was really moved by the petition – it perfectly captures why we need another season! It basically says that stopping now would be a mistake. We’ve invested in these characters and become so attached to the stories, and a third season would let them grow and really pay off those storylines we’re all dying to see. Plus, it would give the creators a chance to explore even more meaningful and thought-provoking themes, which I think is fantastic.
One person who signed the petition wrote a message expressing their deep sadness about the show’s potential cancellation. They felt it was a warm, hopeful, and authentic Star Trek series that managed to feel new while honoring the franchise’s traditions. They believe the show wasn’t given a fair evaluation by some, and that it meant a great deal to its fans. They pleaded for the show to continue.
Look, I know this show isn’t for everyone, but it really resonated with me and a lot of other fans. We’re here, we’re excited about it, and honestly, I even resubscribed to the streaming service just to watch it! It’s so disappointing to hear it might not continue. I really hope they reconsider – we want to see more!
Season 2 Was Ordered Before Season 1 Started Streaming
Even before the first season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premiered in January, Paramount+ had already ordered a second season, indicating they had high hopes for the show. However, it seems the series didn’t quite deliver on that promise. While critics generally gave it positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, fans were very divided in their opinions. Although a better second season was possible, Paramount+ apparently decided not to fund it.
Okay, so I just finished the first few episodes, and this new series really throws you into the future – we’re talking the 32nd century! It centers around a fresh class of Starfleet cadets, the first we’ve seen in over a hundred years, as they go through the rigorous training to become officers. The cast is fantastic – a real ensemble piece with some familiar faces like Holly Hunter, Brit Marling, and even Robert Picardo, alongside a bunch of exciting newcomers like Karim Diane, Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard. Tig Notaro and Oded Fehr round out a seriously strong lineup. It’s a lot of characters, but they all feel integral to the story.
