Truth about The Inbetweeners: How bitter rivalries, jealousy, 'mega-snooty' members and a 'fling' gone sour mean there's 'no way' a reunion will happen, insiders tell GRANT TUCKER

As a longtime fan of “The Inbetweeners“, I must say that reading about James Buckley’s struggle to move past his iconic character, Jay, is both heartwarming and amusing. It’s not often we see an actor so deeply entrenched in a role, yet yearning for more than just the label that comes with it.

In simpler terms, they were a group of high school students from a sitcom who made people laugh with their awkward attempts at losing their virginity and immature pranks on Channel 4.

Ten years since the cast of The Inbetweeners last filmed for their second movie, there’s been speculation that they might come together again under a potentially profitable new film contract. Fans are eagerly anticipating such a reunion.

Contrary to their close-knit portrayal as on-screen friends, actors Joe Thomas, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, and Simon Bird, actually harbor deep-seated rivalries that make the idea of a real-life reunion highly unlikely.

Interestingly enough, it was mentioned that they aren’t actual friends and haven’t been so for quite some time now.

‘Although fans believe them to be close friends off-screen, Simon Bird (Will) and Blake Harrison (Neil) are actually quite haughty or snobbish in real life.’

This week, unfortunately, the band had to let down their fans as they announced that there were no plans for a reunion.

During a recent interview after news broke about a potential third movie, the 40-year-old expressed some hesitation and stated: ‘Unfortunately, I must be the bearer of bad news, but as of now, it’s not in the works.’

However, though the actor attributed the lack of a comeback to the busy schedules of the main actors, industry experts suggest that scheduling is merely one factor at play. One wit even quipped, “The chances of a comeback for The Beatles are about the same.

Over the course of time, much like many circles of teenage companions, these actors have drifted away from each other due to feelings of envy stemming from their varying career accomplishments. This statement was made by a source.

The source mentioned: ‘Indeed, they’ve exchanged some heated conversations throughout their history, yet there’s never been a major spat or significant argument.’

It’s worth noting that each of them has a committed, long-term relationship, and they have progressed to the point where they are fathers now, leading their lives in new directions.

Additionally, there were more disagreements among the cast members, such as reported tension between Emily Atack, portraying the school crush Charlotte, and Buckley, who embodied the character Jay with his colorful language.

The pair are said to have had a behind-the-scenes fling, but the relationship soured.

It was announced that the events resulted in Atack being removed from the Channel 4 reunion show Fwends Reunited in 2019, as she will soon appear in Rivals, the highly anticipated Disney+ series based on Jilly Cooper’s bonkbuster novel.

In the spirit of The Inbetweeners, when Jay forms a new friendship, his peers tease him about it. Interestingly, the series excluded Kelly Bekind-Atack because Joe reportedly informed the producers, “Either her or I.

Reports indicate that Atack himself perceived their short-lived relationship as merely a casual fling. He has consistently minimized its importance to his close acquaintances, expressing regret when he discovered it might have led to her dismissal from the project due to his influence.

A source confides: ‘She was deeply disappointed. To her, it was just a lighthearted moment from the past, something everyone has moved beyond, but it seems he still carries some resentment.’

‘He made it very clear that he wouldn’t share a set with her again in any form. It’s just yet another issue.’

In the late Noughties, the show The Inbetweeners became extremely popular in Britain, offering a humorous look into the lives of four suburban teenagers navigating Rudge Park Comprehensive school. A movie was released in 2011, followed by another in 2014.

It appears that a decade passes quickly in the entertainment industry, as one reason they haven’t reunited is that the four members reportedly feel embarrassed by their youthful pranks from the show, fearing they could harm their professional reputations moving forward.

A source said: ‘It’s James Buckley who wrestles with it the most.

He seems to be the most eager for the continuation of the show and open to a reunion. However, he’s also the one who feels the most self-conscious about public opinion regarding his involvement in it.

It’s not particularly unexpected, considering Jay’s blunt portrayals of hypothetical romantic encounters, many of which continue to circulate on the internet.

According to the source, ‘He continues to be addressed as though he’s the character Jay from The Inbetweeners. At times, he embraces this persona, but at others, he grapples with profound self-doubt, fearing that the public believes him to truly be a fool.’

In other words, just as they did, he hasn’t been able to let go and move past the show as easily as the others have.

Buckley, who tied the knot with ex-beauty pageant contestant Clair Meek in 2012, remains active running a podcast known as Completed It Mate, popularized by one of his catchphrases. He’s amassed over £1 million on video sharing platform Cameo by creating profanity-laced videos for his subscribers who pay for these personalized clips.

His fellow actors have achieved notable acting fame beyond the series, which is quite different from him.

In subsequent roles, Harrison shared screen time with Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw in the critically acclaimed drama “A Very English Scandal.” Additionally, he acted alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones in a movie adaptation of the popular sitcom “Dad’s Army,” and collaborated with Billie Piper in the successful Sky series “I Hate Suzie.

A bird is currently a sought-after figure in directing and producing, and also stars in the hit TV series Friday Night Dinner. On the other hand, Thomas, who portrayed Simon, has been seen in comedic dramas such as Fresh Meat and White Gold, and has made appearances on stage, including his own show at the Edinburgh Festival.

At their final gathering, it was for the Fwends Reunited event, a reunion show that infamously featured Jimmy Carr as the host. Later on, Buckley mentioned that Carr mercilessly joked about them throughout the event.

He clarified: “It transformed into something that wasn’t a commemoration of a positive event in my life, but rather an extended period of teasing and ridicule.

“I wasn’t confident enough or smart enough to keep up with such a fast-paced and witty performer like Jimmy Carr. As a result, I may have appeared rather foolish throughout the entire performance.

He found himself torn between portraying his character and expressing his genuine feelings: ‘I found myself slipping into this predicament where I was saying things like, “You’re behaving like an absolute fool, you’re acting stupidly, you’re being really insensitive.”‘

It was only a fear of being a ‘stick in the mud’, he said, that meant he kept going: ‘I didn’t want to go, ‘Can we stop for a second because I don’t know what the f***’s going on here – you’re talking to me like I’m Jay from The Inbetweeners. I’m really not’.’

It’s not surprising that the show received widespread negative feedback, as one spectator pointed out that the actors seemed disinterested, giving off an impression that they didn’t want to participate.

In short, the four lads – as is frequently the case in real life – have grown up and grown apart.

I personally prefer not to dwell excessively on the past regarding The Inbetweeners, as it was simply a source of amusement from our youthful days.

Regardless of generous financial incentives, it’s unlikely that the four of them will revert to wearing those school uniforms.
