Formula 1: 2024 Singapore qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As a seasoned gamer who’s been following Formula 1 since the days of Ayrton Senna, I must say, the 2023 season has been quite intriguing with the dominance of Max Verstappen and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, only for Carlos Sainz Jr. to break the monotony at the Singapore Grand Prix. The track’s history of winners starting from the front row adds an extra layer of excitement to this street circuit race.

In the 2023 Formula 1 calendar with 22 races, three victories were achieved by drivers other than Max Verstappen, and out of these three wins, only one did not go to his Red Bull Racing teammate, Sergio Perez.

The Singapore Grand Prix, held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, was the event that saw Carlos Sainz Jr., driving for Ferrari, emerge victorious from his pole position start.

The abbreviated Singapore Grand Prix, held on a temporary street circuit spanning 3.07 miles (4.941 kilometers) with 19 turns, was absent from the racing schedule in 2020 and 2021 due to governmental constraints. Following its resumption, it has always been claimed by drivers who began in the front row.

In 2022, Perez claimed victory after starting in second position, whereas Sainz won last year by starting from the pole position. This particular track has hosted a total of 14 races over the years, and out of these, a driver has started from the pole and won on nine occasions. The only time the race was won from outside the top three starting positions was during its debut in 2008, when Fernando Alonso triumphed in the controversial “Crashgate” race after starting from 15th position.

As a dedicated gamer following Formula 1, I’ve noticed that Marina Bay Sands is the one track on the current schedule where Max Verstappen hasn’t secured a victory yet. He’s been on a seven-race losing streak here, which is his longest since the 2020 season when he was a dominant nine-time Grand Prix champion. Now, he’s a three-time consecutive world champion and has notched up an impressive 61 Grand Prix victories, placing him third on the all-time list. It will be intriguing to see if he can break his streak at Marina Bay this season!

In the driver rankings for the current season, Lando Norris is currently ahead of McLaren’s driver by a margin of 59 points. However, this lead has decreased in each of the last three race weekends. With seven races left on the unprecedented 24-race calendar of 2024, it will be interesting to see if the gap continues to shrink.
