First look at Cillian Murphy in new drama role following Peaky Blinders exit

Fans are getting their first glimpse of Cillian Murphy‘s next project after the end of Peaky Blinders. The Oscar-winning actor is filming a new drama set in a prison alongside Daniel Craig, known for his role as James Bond. Production began last week in Greece.

The new Damien Chazelle film, currently without a title, stars Craig as a warden trying to control a rebellious prisoner (Murphy) in a harsh prison environment.

The story shows their relationship becoming a battle of wills as conflict increases. Michelle Williams, known for her role in Venom, will play the warden’s wife, and Mia Threapleton, from The Phoenician Scheme, will play the girlfriend of Murphy’s character.

Just saw the first official photo from the set! It’s Murphy, fully in character, wearing a prison uniform and standing on a cliff, gazing off into the distance. Looks intense!

In a recent interview on the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man podcast, Murphy revealed that Tommy’s death was a necessary part of the story.

Honestly, throughout most of the show, he was really just searching for some peace, a way to escape everything. And he finally gets there. So, the way things ended up felt totally right, you know?

In a recent interview with Tudum, the actor shared that they filmed a key scene at the very beginning of production.

I initially thought the scene would show Tommy being shot, with Duke holding him, but that didn’t feel right,” he explained. “Instead, they ended up embracing and leaning on each other, forming a really striking image within the warehouse. It was a surprising turn of events.”

Steven Knight, the film’s creator, revealed he always planned for the son to kill the father, stating he knew the ending from the very beginning of the project.
