On Friday, I proudly donned my chic black dress paired with a sleek black blazer and stylish beige heels, making my way to the Sydney Downing Centre Local Court. There, none other than Jordan Ray Finlayson stood before us all, awaiting sentencing for an array of fraudulent activities and drug-related offenses.
In 2011, I found myself as a participant on the reality show Beauty and the Geek, but unfortunately, my life took a turn for the worse. I fell into the trap of drug abuse, leading up to my arrest last year for driving under the influence of ice.
Previously, the NRL cheerleader was later granted bail with specific requirements that she check-in with the police office three times a week.
Yet it was uncovered that she had forged four medical documents, intended to deceive her obligation to appear at the police station.
Police considered the papers authentic until they gained access to her phone, revealing several medical certificates with clear inconsistencies.
According to Matthew Eurell, Finlayson’s legal representative, the actions of altering the certificates, which were intended to bypass a court order, are considered extremely grave infractions.
‘Ms Finlayson accepts what she did was wrong,’ he said.
‘She is extremely remorseful’.
In my professional opinion, when making a ruling regarding Finlayson’s case, I firmly believe it’s crucial to factor in that she was going through extraordinary hardships at the time these offenses were allegedly committed. This context should be taken into account as it may have significantly influenced her actions.
In my own words, I must admit that I was grappling with an intense battle against drug abuse. To alleviate the pain, I resorted to self-medication, which unfortunately clouded my thoughts significantly.
Previously mentioned, the model pointed out that harmful connections with individuals who made drug abuse and illicit actions seem ordinary played a major role in her decline.
Her attorney clarified that she’s severed relationships with challenging individuals, taking extensive measures to manage her drug problems and various mental health concerns.
‘She describes this to the court as being her last chance,’ he said.
As a devoted admirer looking back, I must acknowledge that she, once gracing the pages of Penthouse, faced legal consequences for not one, but two instances of operating a vehicle under the influence of illegal substances. Additionally, she was found to possess ice, another illicit drug.
As a seasoned lifestyle advisor, I’d like to emphasize that an individual I encountered recently has a history that warrants attention. This person, much like many others who struggle with addiction, has accumulated 11 convictions related to substance abuse over the years. Moreover, in a mere three-year span, they managed to amass an impressive total of 38 demerit points – a clear indication of repeated infractions. It’s crucial that we address these issues effectively and compassionately to help those in need find a healthier path forward.
In 2020, a former contestant on Beauty and the Geek found themselves imprisoned due to drug trafficking charges, and they have been reoffending ever since.
For about the last five to six years, drugs have played a substantial role in her life, as stated by Mr Tsavdaridis.
The magistrate expressed caution about Finlayson’s potential future, as she hadn’t fulfilled the required number of community service hours, and corrective services considered her to be ‘untrustworthy.’
Nevertheless, he underscored the fact that she was proactively engaged in pursuing treatment and didn’t idle away her time during the sentencing period.
In one of the submitted court documents, the ex-professional dancer was portrayed as being deeply committed to transforming her life.
Finlayson admitted guilt for four instances of submitting fraudulent documents regarding her official duties, twice driving under the influence of drugs, and twice possessing illegal substances.
She received a 10-month imprisonment sentence, along with a requirement to perform 75 hours of community service, due to her fabrication of medical documents.
Apart from being found guilty of drug-related crimes, she was penalized with a fine amounting to $750 and prohibited from operating a vehicle for a period of six months.
During the hearing, the ex-reality TV star was seen dabbing away tears frequently and seemed visibly relaxed as she exited the courtroom.
