NASCAR: 2024 Bristol playoff qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast with memories of the roaring engines and thrilling races etched deep into my heart, I eagerly anticipate the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. With only 15 drivers vying for the remaining spots in the round of 12 of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, the tension is palpable!

15 drivers will compete to secure the final 11 positions for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoff round 12, taking place during the Bass Pro Shops Night Race on Saturday evening at Bristol Motor Speedway.

After Chris Buescher of RFK Racing snatched a victory at Watkins Glen International on Sunday afternoon, only Joey Logano from Team Penske has secured his spot in the next round of the playoffs. As a gamer, I’m keeping my eyes on the competition to see who will join him!

In simpler terms, the two-time title holder, who consistently makes it to the final four in championships during even years, secured a place in the next round (round of 12) by triumphing in the opening race of the round of 16 (first round at Atlanta Motor Speedway).

Instead of one lap per driver during the qualifying session at the 0.533-mile Bristol, Tennessee oval, known as the “Last Great Colosseum”, which is a short track, drivers will be making two-lap runs this time around.

As a diehard NASCAR enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the field of drivers is divided into two groups for qualifying sessions, a system implemented in 2020. This division is based on a four-factor formula unique to NASCAR. For those interested in delving deeper into this intriguing equation, a detailed explanation can be found here.

As a racing enthusiast, I’m excited about how non-playoff drivers always get a chance before the playoff drivers in each group during qualifying sessions. This setup ensures that there are eight playoff drivers in each group, creating an intriguing mix of competition. The five fastest drivers among these advance to the second round where they fight tooth and nail for the coveted pole position.

Unlike when Bristol hosted the Cup Series back in March, the second round is also group-based.
