It was widely believed that Project Rene would be the next installment, or The Sims 5. However, Executive Kate Gorman from EA has made it clear that The Sims 4 won’t have a direct successor following the conventional approach.

She shared that we won’t focus on revamping past projects, instead, we will solely expand upon the existing world, as she communicated to Variety.

We’re still devoted to providing additional content for The Sims 4, including expansion packs, updates, and bug fixes, more than ever. However, moving ahead, our approach to delivering these will undergo some changes.

The team has proposed several suggestions for growth within a recent community questionnaire, and they’re eager to hear your thoughts on them.

You can complete the survey at this location. One topic explores a gritty urban setting where characters can choose to be a con artist, mafia leader, or vigilante crime-fighter. Another scenario is set in a world where civilization has crumbled, and players must navigate and survive in these harsh conditions.

An alternative concept revolves around a “thriving underwater universe,” offering buried riches, various aquatic creatures, and sea journeys.

In all, we have come up with nine potential expansions. We’d love to hear your feedback and thoughts, so please participate in our official survey.

Lastly, we have an update on Project Rene.

We now know for sure that Project Rene isn’t The Sims 5. It also sounds like EA is trying to set Project Rene apart from the other Sims games, with EA executive Kate Gorman talking up its multiplayer focus.

She shared with Variety that they’ve gathered significant insights from “The Sims Online”. They understand the potential for creating a highly interactive, real-time, multiplayer experience within their game world. As of now, this kind of social play hasn’t been implemented in games like “The Sims 4” or any other titles they’ve produced thus far. So, they are exploring what this could entail and how it might be realized.

This fall, there’ll be an exclusive, limited “playtest event” for Project Rene. Interested gamers can apply to join the playtest through The Sims Labs, a fresh testing ground where participants can try out upcoming products and features as they are developed.
