She candidly admitted that she had been living in loose-fitting sweatpants and unflattering tops because she disliked her appearance and felt too afraid to step outside.
In February 2023, Jansen tragically passed away. Now, the former player for Heroes, aged 35, has shared her feelings on this unexpected loss, describing it as if she had lost a significant part of herself, comparable to losing half of her soul.
Additionally, she disclosed that the emotional strain caused by his death led her to experience significant weight gain, leaving her in a very unfortunate and damaging state of being.
She remarked, “When my younger brother died, my body responded in a way I had never noticed before.
In just a few days, I noticeably gained weight. I’m aware that high levels of stress and the hormone cortisol can lead to such changes in one’s body.
The star said she ‘tried everything’ to shed the pounds but, no matter what she did, she couldn’t lose weight.
She went on saying, “I gave everything a shot, whether it was unhealthy or healthy options. It turned out that neither my diet nor my activities made any difference.
‘My body was just like protecting itself, shielding itself from the world.’
Hayden admitted that she became increasingly anxious about her appearance, leading to a phobia known as agoraphobia, which is characterized by an intense fear of venturing outdoors.
She remembered thinking, “I spent my days in loose-fitting sweats and plain t-shirts, clothes that seemed to consume me and didn’t do justice to my figure.
I spent a considerable amount of time selecting an outfit that made me feel confident enough to step out and hang out with my friends, as it had taken me quite some time.
‘I found myself in a vicious cycle where I questioned whether I felt good enough to socialize, yet I lacked confidence to do so. However, staying indoors prevented any progress, keeping me stuck in my current appearance.’
Reflecting on her brother’s demise, Hayden confessed that she can’t seem to move past the sorrow of his absence.
She explained, “I was his sole sibling, and it fell on me to safeguard him. When he passed away, it seemed as though a substantial part of myself had been taken.” As she fought back tears, she expressed this sentiment.
‘I remember saying to somebody, “Don’t ever, ever expect me to get over the loss of him.”
In February 2023, Jansen sadly lost his life at the tender age of 28. His friends discovered him unresponsive in his apartment located in Nyack, New York.
Later on, it was reported to DailyMail.com that he had faced difficulties with substance abuse in the past, and had undergone rehabilitation about a year prior to his unexpected passing.
Hayden has been candid about her personal struggles with addiction, sharing in the past that a member of her team started providing her with prescription drugs to keep her lively for interviews by the age of 15.
She confided to the source that she hadn’t realized this wasn’t the right action, nor did she know the consequences it might have on her addiction issue.
At age 16, her daily routine often included regular consumption of alcohol and opioids, except when she was acting in the TV series “Heroes”.
In time, substances like drugs and alcohol grew to feel essential for her daily life, she admitted, hinting at how her struggle with addiction intensified during her work on Nashville and amidst battling post-partum depression.
In 2015, when she checked into rehab, she stated that it was her decision: ‘It was me who admitted myself to the initial recovery facility. I felt like I was sinking.’
After completing the filming for Nashville in 2018, she reached a very low point in her life. She placed Kaya with her father Klitschhko in Ukraine, and eventually, due to jaundice, she was admitted to the hospital where she informed the doctors that her liver was failing and it might stop functioning completely.
At age 30, this well-known figure entered a 12-step program that promotes living without any substances capable of altering the mind, such as alcohol, and instead fostering a lifestyle of total abstinence.
