Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man brought back a ‘missing’ Shelby – and you didn’t notice

After its first week, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is still the most popular movie on Netflix globally. Many viewers have noticed the absence of familiar characters like Arthur and Finn Shelby, and are also curious about what happened to Tommy Shelby’s son, Charles.

At the conclusion of the TV series, Charles was twelve years old. After a six-year leap forward in the Netflix film, he would be eighteen and prepared to join the Peaky Blinders, which are now run by Duke, Tommy Shelby’s eldest son.

He isn’t where you might expect, because the film is set during World War II. As Ada explains to Tommy, he’s actually fighting on the front lines in North Africa. Also, don’t forget that Charles did return briefly to say goodbye to his father.

In a touching scene at the end, you can spot Charles among the mourners at the funeral, dressed in his military uniform. He’s visible in the photo below, standing right next to his step-brother, the Duke, though he doesn’t have any lines in the film.

You might not realize it, but the soldier in the movie is actually Charles, since he doesn’t have any lines. Unless you noticed his uniform, you might have missed him! The credits reveal he’s played by Alfie Thomas Bland, and this is his first film role.

Currently a student at LIPA, Bland expressed his excitement about joining such a well-known film series. He wasn’t the only LIPA talent involved – Spencer Elcock, a 2025 graduate, also appears as a member of Duke’s Peaky Blinders gang.

It’s incredible to have worked alongside Oscar and Emmy winners so early in my career, and I’m really grateful to everyone who helped me get here.

What happens to Charles Shelby after the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is still unknown. But, he might show up in the upcoming sequel series, which takes place in 1953 and will focus on a new generation of the Shelby family (according to TUDUM).

Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, has revealed that the character Duke will return in the upcoming sequel series. It’s currently unclear whether he’ll be in charge of the gang, but Knight also confirmed that Finn survived the events of the show and could potentially reappear with Duke and Charles in the new series.
