As a seasoned observer of the glittering world of Strictly Come Dancing, I must say that Angela Rippon’s journey in this year’s competition has been nothing short of captivating. Her years of experience and grace have shone through in every dance move she’s made, making her a true delight to watch.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d like to share an intriguing tidbit from the world of dance: my Strictly Come Dancing partner, Kai Widdrington, preferred to keep our initial routine under wraps. To achieve this, he tactfully requested that not all our rehearsals be recorded, preserving a sense of mystery and surprise for our performance.

79-year-old broadcaster was a guest on the BBC program last year, alongside Kai (age 29). They advanced as far as Blackpool Week before getting eliminated from the competition.

Over the weekend, the dance competition featuring both Latin and ballroom styles made its comeback on TV screens, following a tumultuous year filled with significant controversies and an unexpected National Television Award victory to celebrate its 20-year milestone.

As a die-hard fan, I’m finding it hard to keep my cool over the recent storm brewing in my beloved dance show. The claims of bullying and abusive behavior towards two of its ex-dancers, Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice, have sent shockwaves through the fandom. I just can’t help but feel devastated and disillusioned by these allegations.

It was confessed by Graziano that he kicked his partner, Zara McDermott (Love Island star), during their practice sessions, while Amanda Abbington (Giovanni’s partner) alleged that Giovanni behaved aggressively towards her during rehearsals – all incidents occurring when the cameras were not rolling.

Consequently, the BBC has decided to have supervisors present throughout the rehearsals for the upcoming series, to monitor the couples at all times.

Angela shared insights about her training period on the program, disclosing that Kai intentionally prevented cameras from filming their practice sessions for their initial dance routine at one point.

The journalist –  who made history as the show’s oldest ever contestant – wowed viewers during the launch show, as she performed a very energetic Cha-cha-cha.

To the rhythm of Shirley Bassey’s “Let’s Get This Party Started,” she astounded spectators with a finale move where she effortlessly extended her limb skyward, reaching almost to her head, showcasing remarkable flexibility.

Reminding him of their rehearsal, Angela shared that Kai, the skilled dancer, was adamant about not recording the routine to keep it as an exciting unveiling for the viewers.

Regarding the final high kick I orchestrated in The Express, I shared that when Kai grabbed my foot mid-kick, he continued to push it until it was at eye level with my nose. He then said, “That should work.

She explained further: ‘During rehearsals, you’d reach the final part of the dance where he usually performs, but he wouldn’t do it when the camera crews were filming. He always refused, calling it our hidden “Easter egg,” something special and unexpected we would reveal.’

Angela shared that she found it quite challenging to maintain secrecy, yet the applause she received made it all worthwhile.

She mentioned that we performed the entire dance, marking the first time everyone witnessed me doing it. The audience’s response was unprecedented. Upon glancing around, I noticed everyone standing and clapping. However, maintaining the secrecy about it proved challenging, even towards the groups involved.

Previously in this month, Angela spoke about the implementation of fresh policies during her appearance on BBC, emphatically stating that she didn’t require an escort when paired with Kai.

She enthusiastically told Express.co.uk, “Kai is truly a gentleman, kind-hearted, and an exceptional educator. However, the BBC may take any action they deem appropriate.

Additionally, she voiced her regret that Kai wouldn’t be paired with a famous partner for the show, commenting, “It’s a pity the well-known female stars won’t have the opportunity to dance with him.

During the weekend launch event, it became clear that the dancer won’t be competing individually but will instead perform only in the group routines, joining Carlos Gu and Lauren Oakley on stage.

Reflecting on her feelings, Angela expressed her deep disappointment towards him, adding that she was equally disheartened for the talented female celebrities. This is due to his exceptional dancing skills and his ability to teach dance, making him a remarkable and inspiring instructor.

He possesses both patience and a great sense of humor, and he excels in whatever task he takes on. It’s truly unfortunate for them, as they won’t get to experience the delight and pleasure that I had while dancing with him and gaining knowledge from him.

This week, Kai finally spoke up about not finding a partner on the show, sharing with The Daily Star: “Every contestant aims for a celebrity match. Regrettably, it wasn’t my turn in this season. Two men couldn’t have a partner this season, and unfortunately, I am one of them.

Not everyone manages to find a partner, and that seems to be the current state of things. We’ll have to wait and see how next year unfolds. Fingers crossed, maybe I’ll find someone new next year.

The Class of 2024 at Strictly includes notable figures such as Jamie Borthwick from EastEnders, reality TV star Tasha Ghouri (from Love Island), and the singer JB Gill, formerly of JLS.

Additionally participating are Shayne Ward, the victor from X Factor, Sarah Hadland known for her role in Miranda, and Nick Knowles, who presents DIY SOS.

Comedian Chris McCausland, known for being the first blind contestant on the show, is quickly winning over fans with his sharp humor.
