Inside the wild love life and complicated family of Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro – amid fallout over THAT onstage bust-up
As I delve into the life story of Dave Navarro, a name synonymous with rock ‘n’ roll and resilience, I can’t help but be awestruck by his journey. This man has navigated through the highs and lows of fame, love, and addiction with an unwavering spirit that is truly inspiring.
Rocker Dave Navarro is back in the headlines after his band spectacularly imploded on stage.
Last week during a performance in Boston, Dave, the founding guitarist for the ’90s alternative rock group Jane’s Addiction, had an argument with his bandmate Perry Farrell mid-show.
At the concert, video evidence revealed a confrontation between Farrell, aged 65, and Navarro, during their performance of the popular song “Mountain Song.
Due to the backstage argument, Dave decided to cancel the rest of the concert dates during the band’s initial tour in 14 years with the original members.
Given the persistent actions of Perry Farrell and his mental health challenges, we’ve reached a point where we must cancel the ongoing US tour,” explained Navarro in a statement.
I persistently stated: ‘Regarding his wellbeing and ours, we’ve been compelled to make a difficult decision. We fervently pray that he locates the assistance necessary for him to recover.’
Navarro’s complicated career has paralleled his equally tumultuous love life over the years.
The individual in question has been married three times and has had relationships with several adult film actresses, including Stormy Daniels, Sasha Grey, and Jenna Jameson.
Dave has also been linked with the likes of pop star Fiona Apple and MAXIM model Tania Donaldson.
His first marriage was to celebrity make-up artist Tania Goddard Saylor.
That union was short-lived however, with the couple divorcing two years after their 1990 nuptials.
His next marriage was even briefer – famously lasting just five days.
Rhian Gittins tied the knot with Navarro on October 15, 1994.
That very year, they ended their marriage on October 20th, a date which marked one of the briefest celebrity marriages ever recorded.
Navarro’s next relationship was with actress and model Carmen Electra.
In the early 2000s, Dave encountered a well-known former Baywatch actress, instantly becoming a noteworthy pairing that garnered significant media interest.
The focus was particularly on their relationship, as it was prominently displayed on the reality TV series “Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave,” which aired for seven episodes on MTV back in 2004.
Audience members were given an exclusive look at the preparations for the big day, as the well-known pair organized their wedding, and the series concluded with the grand wedding event.
Nevertheless, their bond didn’t last either, and they decided to part ways in 2006, two years after its initiation.
Regardless of our parting ways, in the year 2019, I took a moment to express a heartfelt wish on my ex’s birthday via social media, offering a sweet nod to our past bond.
On their wedding day photo-share, Electra expressed: “Happy Birthday @davenavarro! My love for you goes beyond what words can say.
‘Our unique bond, filled with joy, amusement, and comprehension, has been a treasure! Thank you for accepting me as I am, overlooking my imperfections. Indeed, the time-out system was beneficial. I’m so thankful we remain friends! Happy Birthday to you, DN! #happybirthday #treatyouthuspart.’
The rocker is currently engaged to After We Collided Actress Vanessa DuBasso.
Dave became a member of Jane’s Addiction as early as 1986, prior to their disintegration in 1991, which was triggered by internal conflicts and emotional strain among the band members.
Initially designated as Izzy Stradlin’s replacement in legendary rock band Guns N Roses, it is said that he failed to appear.
Additionally, he was part of the funk-punk rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers, and this collaboration led to the creation of their 2005 album “One Hot Minute.
Following a few Jane’s Addiction reunion instances, the band came together again in 2022, but this time without Navarro, who was unable to participate due to being affected by Long COVID.
Over the years, Dave’s tempestuous stage journey has mirrored in his private life, marked by numerous marriages, love affairs, and high-profile struggles with substance abuse involving drugs and alcohol.
Both Navarro’s mother and aunt were murdered by his mother’s ex-boyfriend John Riccardi in 1983.
He was ultimately arrested after being featured on America’s Most Wanted.
Navarro released a documentary in 2015 called Mourning Son, which details the harrowing ordeal.
During an interview with The Huffington Post upon the movie’s premiere, Navarro admitted that he didn’t initially recognize the film as a commentary on domestic violence until he found himself deeply involved in its production.
He mentioned that one reason for this might be because he was closely connected to those events as a child during the 1980s, which made terms like these less common in his experience.
‘As we were putting the project together, it dawned on me that that’s what I’m talking about.’
Apart from that, Dave, just like many others, has battled with addiction issues, which trace back to the sorrow he experienced following his mother’s demise.
Following the disbandment of Jane’s Addiction in 1991, Dave sought help by entering a rehabilitation center with the intention of overcoming his addiction.
For approximately five years, he adopted a vegan diet and healthier lifestyle, but in 1997, he fell back into his old habits.
2022 saw Dave open up about his past to Adam Carolla, sharing that it had been almost two decades since he last used intravenous drugs, and a remarkable four years since he embarked on his sobriety journey.
In his podcast interview, he openly shared about the immense embarrassment often associated with conditions such as addiction, depression, and mental illness, mentioning that he too has personally experienced these struggles, including battles with substance abuse and mental health concerns.
One factor that often inhibits individuals from seeking assistance is the feeling of embarrassment or shame. It’s important to remember, however, that this shame has never rescued anyone. Instead, it’s the very thing that keeps people from living and surviving.
