James Earl Jones, Bob Newhart, Shannen Doherty and more honored in Emmys' touching 'In Memoriam' tribute

As a movie critic who has spent decades immersed in the captivating world of cinema and television, I find myself moved by the poignant tribute paid to the illustrious personalities during the 76th Emmy Awards’ “In Memoriam” segment. The poignant performance by Jelly Roll, accompanied by a small live orchestra, served as an emotional reminder of the profound impact these storytellers have had on our lives.

During the “In Memoriam” segment of the 76th Emmy Awards held on Sunday, James Earl Jones, Martin Mull, Ryan O’Neal, and Phil Donahue were some of the television personalities who were honored posthumously.

In a unique presentation, performer Jelly Roll delivered his hit track “I Am Not Okay” accompanied by a modest orchestra. As a backdrop, scenes of various actors, producers, writers, and other key figures within the TV production sector were displayed.

“The performer, clad in black, expressed his view that music has healing powers. He also feels that telling stories is equally beneficial in finding emotional release. He hopes that this particular song will serve as a comforting moment for those grieving the storytellers we’ve lost recently.

In case you’re struggling or feeling isolated tonight, please remember that it’s perfectly fine if you’re not always feeling okay.

Additionally, Shannen Doherty, Richard Simmons, Louis Gossett Jr., Gena Rowlands, Carl Weathers, Donald Sutherland, Chance Perdomo, Peter Marshall, and producer Paula Weinstein were among the recipients who received tribute.

Jimmy Kimmel paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Bob Newhart, saying, “He didn’t require a wide range of skills; he already possessed something that only a handful of comedians have nowadays – a background in accounting.” Before this, he humorously remarked, “Bob didn’t need ‘range’, as very few comedians do today.

He remarked, “Bob was an unassuming, charmingly funny individual. His first Emmy nomination came in 1962, and it wasn’t until 2013, after a wait of 51 years, that he finally won one. Laughing about the lengthy wait, he playfully teased Jon Stewart, who had beaten him in the talk show category at ‘The Daily Show’, saying, ‘Jon Stewart, you should feel a sense of guilt for your victory over me.’
