Former The Project star makes shock return to after sensationally quitting two years ago - and fans are delighted

As a dedicated follower of The Sunday Project and Peter Helliar’s illustrious career, I must say it was nothing short of delightful to see him return to the desk after his brief sojourn in Argentina. It’s like inviting an old friend back home for dinner, only this time he brought laughter, wit, and a touch of Argentinean flair with him!

Peter Helliar made a surprising return to The Sunday Project this weekend.

In 2022, the stand-up comic who dramatically left the news talk show made an appearance next to Michael Hing, Max Rushden, and Sarah Harris at their work station.

Introduced as our globe-trotting friend, Pete Helliar, he takes his seat! Previously, we shared why this seasoned personality made a return visit to his familiar turf for a special guest role in today’s broadcast.

Peter, who has been traveling lately, made a joke by saying, “Since I forgot to cast my vote for Marsupial of the Year, I had to return from Argentina.

The Wi-Fi signal was poor during our hike on the Inca Trail. By the way, I resemble a hairy-nosed wombat. And it seems they have a unique form of entertainment where people are… well, let’s just say they dance in an intense manner.

Afterward, Peter effortlessly fell into the rhythm of the program, sharing tales and bantering with the fresh team as if they were long-time companions.

His fans were delighted, with several sharing their thoughts on social media.

Option A: One individual enthusiastically commented, “Excellent! It seems you’ll be staying with us long term!” Meanwhile, another suggested, “How about sharing co-hosting duties?

Previously, I, a devoted admirer, spilled the beans about the authentic motive behind my departure from The Project, as the tumultuous exit of numerous team members persists in the beleaguered Channel Ten program.

Two years back, I found myself announcing my departure from the show, a decision that came after my cherished co-host, Carrie Bickmore, bid her farewell.

He mentioned that Carrie expressed joy about departing from The Project even though she continues to hold affection for it, and he shared that he too appreciates the program.

This project holds significant value for me as it has greatly impacted my life. I’ve had some incredible experiences through it, such as interviewing Luke Skywalker – a moment I’ll always cherish. I eagerly anticipate seeing where this show goes in the future.

As a lifestyle expert, I, too, am eagerly looking forward to exploring fresh territories in the upcoming year. I aim to avoid being that creative professional who constantly skips out on one meeting to attend another.

Additionally, he shared with Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa that his ambition is to achieve both professional and personal growth in his life.

‘[There are] things I want to do with my life, not just professionally but personally and I’ve already booked into the ashes in London next year,’ he said.

‘It’s not just 10 years on the project. But before that is like 10 years on Rove Live in the office every day.’

The Project was rocked by two other high-profile exits in late 2022.

Lisa Wilkinson recently announced that she is stepping down with immediate effect, while it’s worth noting that her co-anchor, Carrie, had previously announced her intention to leave a month ago.

Wilkinson shared with fellow hosts Hamish Macdonald and Laura Byrne that he felt now is the right moment to reassess some aspects of his life and make necessary changes.

After approximately 15 years on breakfast TV and another 5 years here at The Project, I’m considering what I want my future, both in terms of my professional life and personal life, to look like.

After a contentious year marked by controversy for the TV host, Lisa’s departure ensued after her ill-fated Logies speech caused a delay in a rape trial due to its impact.

That October, Lisa’s fellow actor, Bickmore, publicly shared her decision to leave The Project following a 12-year tenure on the show.

Bickmore took a break of three months, spending time with her family in London during the first part of the year. She came back to work on the panel in July but decided to leave in October.
