LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy Episode 1 Recap: IT’S A TRAP!
As a seasoned galactic traveler and a witness to countless interstellar events, I can say without a shadow of doubt that this latest turn of events is unlike anything I’ve ever encountered before. The rearrangement of space and time, the resurrection of clone troopers, and the rise of a Sith Lord named Darth Devastator – it’s as if the galaxy has taken a wild detour off the usual path of history!
This recap contains full spoilers for LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy episode one.
In Episode 1 of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, we begin by descending through space to the planet Fennesa, showcasing a town caught in a thunderstorm. Gathered around a campfire, a character named Sig Greebling regales his companions with tales from the initial and subsequent Star Wars sagas.
listeners find Sig’s stories unimpressive as he frequently recounts the same tale (he acknowledges omitting Thrawn and “The Book of Boba Fett” this time), but a change in weather prompts Sig’s brother Dev to arrive, emphasizing their need to guide a herd of nerfs from the mountain before another storm approaches. The brothers then embark on the task of rounding up these creatures.
It appears Sig is displeased as he realizes that Dev has once again taken shortcuts, leading to the initial distancing of the nerfs. Dev aims to earn enough income for an escape from the planet, but Sig insists that Fennesa is their home. Curious, Dev inquires if Sig would consider leaving to pursue his own adventures. However, Sig expresses satisfaction with the current situation.
In their attempt to control the animals, one blue-named nerf named Lug stubbornly ignores Sig’s instructions, causing the rest of the beasts to move even farther away. Sig, who strictly adheres to rules, is attempting to guide them properly using a traditional nerf herding stick. Meanwhile, Dev disregards established methods and uses his speeder to round up the animals, which angers both Lug and Sig.
Once again, Dev hops on his speeding vehicle, yet he loses command over it! He veers wildly through the air. In a surprising turn of events, Sig extends a hand, unintentionally employing the Force to create a gentle landing for himself among some plants. Sig confesses that he’s been wielding the Force for quite some time now, but not in the conventional manner. It appears he can only construct things.
Dev believes his sibling should share with others that they possess some extraordinary ability, akin to ‘The Force’. However, Sig argues against this, stating, “Once you’re gifted with powers and capable of performing amazing feats, people tend to expect greatness from you. I, on the other hand, just want to lead an ordinary life.” Dev counters by asserting that his younger brother is anything but ordinary and hopes they come to understand this. Sig expresses regret that it was Dev who received the powers, not him.
They go back to the town, where New Republic officials confront Farmer Scala regarding his daughter, Yesi, playing recklessly in one of their X-wings. After the officials depart, Scala emphasizes that she should act responsibly as she’s expected to inherit the farm. However, Yesi has no interest in the farm; instead, her dream is to become a pilot.
I rush over to my friends, where me and Dev unload our shared frustrations about wanting to break free. I don’t want someone else dictating my journey. Me and Dev opt to spend time together as Sig slips away embarrassedly towards home. That’s because Sig harbors a crush on me, Yesi.
Upon returning home, he is greeted by his robot, Servo. From a nearby window, they both observe Dev, Yesi, and the town folk celebrating together.
The following day, during their sheep-tending duties, Dev informs Sig that Yesi is prepared to depart with him once he gathers sufficient funds. However, Sig remains dismayed at their impending departure, despite Dev’s persistent invitations for him to accompany them.
Without warning, an ion storm descends, with lightning flashing everywhere! Lug, uncontrollably breaking free from his reins, comes close to tumbling off a cliff. Sig manages to pull back on the reins, but he too slips! Dev swiftly saves his brother from falling, but in the process, Servo, eager to assist, accidentally causes all three of them to go over the edge.
Fortunately, all three of them are unharmed. Dev discovered a detour, surprisingly leading them on a more extended route. As they journeyed through a mountain pass, they spotted what appeared to be a Jedi temple. Eager to explore and find a kyber crystal for sale, enabling their departure from the planet, Dev suggested this was their destiny. He persistently persuaded Sig, his younger brother, to use his Force abilities to unlock the temple’s entrance.
The temple showcases stunning statues depicting Jedi and radiant crystals. Among them, one stone stands out more vibrantly than its neighbors. As Sig approaches to read an inscription, he discovers this specific area is renowned for being the “cornerstone of the galaxy,” a fact not lost on Dev as well.
In simpler terms, Sig halts Dev, causing him to become irritated. In response, Dev accuses Sig of being fearful and stuck in life. Determined to show he’s not afraid, Sig seizes the glowing block using the Force. However, as soon as he pulls it out of the wall, a cloaked figure, who turns out to be a Jedi, warns them to step back from that spot!
As a brilliant light erupts from the temple’s wall, it starts to crumble! Dev manages to escape, but the entrance caves in, enclosing Sig, Servo, and the Jedi within. The Jedi calls out, warning that the fabric of space and time is disintegrating! It seems that the fundamental components of the galaxy are being restructured – planets, starships, individuals, historical moments, and even canonical events are all transforming.
The Jedi speaks, reflecting on the past that has vanished, saying, “Whatever happened earlier fades away. Our victories and sorrows will transform into… a fresh beginning.” As the final pulses of light fade across the cosmos, they eventually quiet down.
Afterward, Sig and Servo emerged from the ruins of what seemed like an entirely new realm, no longer on the mountain path they traversed earlier. As they searched for Dev, it became apparent to Sig that his surroundings had drastically changed.
On top of the ridge, he notices a clone trooper, which puzzles him since clones are thought to be extinct, having vanished years ago. Soon, additional clone troopers appear, encircling Sig and Servo. They remove their helmets to reveal their identities…
All the troops resemble Admiral Ackbar, being clones, and their response is always “It’s a trap!” However, it seems odd that Fennesa now serves the Empire since it no longer exists in the present timeline.
The Ackbars, who are employed by the Empire, aim to transport Sig before the Sith Leader they serve. As our protagonists find themselves cornered, Yesi emerges from the debris, battling off the Mon Cala replicas! However, the situation remains uncertain as Yesi no longer recognizes Sig. She presumes Sig has been dispatched to monitor her, as she is alleged to have made a mistake during the Rebellion. The Empire took her father’s life, and she’s in Fennesa solely to explore it for the Rebel Alliance.
One of the Ackbars wakes up and tries to shoot Yesi. Sig uses the Force to throw a block and knock him out again. She’s ecstatic that she found a Jedi and how that can change the tide for her– er, she means the Rebellion.
They retrace their steps towards town. Sig feels disheartened as he notices alterations in his once familiar surroundings (although he appreciates the unique blend of X-wing and TIE fighters, which Yesi refers to as “X-fighters”). Our protagonists aim to reach the dock where Yesi’s ship waits, allowing them to depart swiftly.
Upon entry, Sig observes Dev walking alongside a band of Ackbar soldiers. However, something seems amiss – Dev appears angry and is dressed in all black attire. Despite Yesi’s attempts to intervene, Sig feels compelled to assist his brother. Unfortunately, this act leads him to be encircled by the group, making matters even more dire.
It appears that Dev fails to identify Sig; however, Sig claims they discovered the Jedi temple side by side. Yet, it’s astounding since Dev has spent years searching for that very temple. To make matters worse, there’s another disturbing aspect concerning Dev as well.
He is a Sith Lord named Darth Dev, complete with him pulling up his hood for dramatic Sith Lord flair. It’s short for Darth Devastator, as Dev shows off his own Force lightning. This Dev is also the ruler of the galaxy now.
In a swift movement, Dev employs the Force to extract Yesi and Sig from their concealed location, taking them into custody. Meanwhile, Servo remains hidden in the adjacent alleyway until he encounters once more the enigmatic Jedi figure seen earlier.
Here we meet Jedi Bob, who’s got a rescue strategy in mind. That concludes the first episode of LEGO Star Wars: Building Back the Galaxy.
