As I delve into the captivating tale of Prue Leith, a woman whose culinary prowess and versatile career span across decades, I find myself utterly captivated by her journey. Born into a world where the art of cooking was as much a passion as it was a necessity, Prue’s life seems to be an intricate tapestry woven with threads of gastronomy, fashion, and television.

She’s recognized for her vibrant outfits, striking patterns, and unique weekly glasses choices on The Great British Bake Off.

But nothing could have prepared fans for Prue Leith’s latest look.

The restaurateur, 84, made sure all eyes were on her as she opted for a striking all leather look.

During London Fashion Week on Friday, the broadcaster confidently walked along the runway during the Vin + Omi show held at The Kensington Building.

Flashing pictures, a sleek PVC midi dress with a provocative red laced-up design on the bodice and noticeably broad shoulders was prominently displayed.

She added a touch of style to her ensemble with a pair of sleek black leather sneakers and gloves to match, transitioning from the kitchen to the stage.

Ditching her glasses, Prue opted for intense smoky eye makeup and a bold red lip.

In a few days, you’ll see Prue back on your screens alongside Paul Hollywood as the 15th season of The Great British Bake Off begins airing on September 24 at 8 pm.

Previously, Prue openly shared that she nearly declined applying for Mary Berry’s position in the cherished TV show because she was concerned about not meeting the ‘diversity requirements’.

The star has been a judge on the cooking competition since she replaced Mary in 2016.

Yet surprisingly, it almost didn’t turn out this way, for Prue had originally discarded the notion altogether.

Back in the 1970s, it’s been discovered that these women were already acquainted. This revelation came about when an old photograph of them together with broadcaster Jack de Manio (1914-1988) was found.

During an interview with the Sliding Doors podcast hosted by Jennie Becker, Prue shared that upon learning Mary Berry would not continue in her role, she instantly felt drawn to it. The idea had started to cross her mind, and as soon as she considered the possibility of taking over, she thought to herself: “What a wonderful opportunity that job would be!” However, she initially brushed off the idea.

I pondered: “Perhaps they will select a newer, more likely a young Asian chef to fit the diversity requirements. Yet surprisingly, they picked me instead.

Reflecting on my previous professional journey, I spent 11 years judging The Great British Menu, where each dish typically features around ten distinct flavors. Compared to Bake Off, this seems remarkably straightforward.

“A single spoonful of cake gives you a taste of the frosting, the creamy center, and the tender crumbs. Given my experience working alongside renowned chefs and operating my own Michelin-starred restaurant, I’m quite familiar with that standard of culinary expertise.

Maty’s expertise in baking also extends to Prue’s husband, John Playfair, the 77-year-old fashion designer, who often references it when critiquing his wife’s culinary skills.

She mentioned, “I won’t make cakes because we’re both overweight, and in response, he teases me by saying, ‘If only I had married Mary Berry.’

When Prue arrived, fans who were already upset about the shift from BBC to Channel 4 and the departure of Mary, Sue Perkins, and Mel Giedroyc, didn’t take a liking to her immediately.

In February, The Times reported that Prue had stated, “I dislike my voice; it’s overly refined. When I took over for Mary Berry on Bake Off, someone on Twitter commented, ‘Oh no, not that snobbish woman,’ and in a way, I shared her sentiment. However, it seems Americans appreciate it.
