The Witcher season 4 sets more filming locations, including iconic House of the Dragon location

As a die-hard Witcher fan who has been following this epic saga since its humble beginnings, I can hardly contain my excitement as filming for The Witcher Season 4 commences! With Liam Hemsworth stepping into the iconic role of Geralt of Rivia and the series nearing its conclusion, it’s a bittersweet moment that has me reminiscing about the incredible journey we’ve all shared thus far.

Production carries on for the fourth installment of the Netflix fantasy series, The Witcher, inspired by the book collection penned by Andrzej Sapkowski. Filming for the fourth season commenced in April 2024 and is slated to conclude around October. As we approach the final stretch, the show plans to visit a few fresh filming spots over the next couple of weeks.

According to Redanian Intelligence, a trusted source for all things related to The Witcher, their agents have discovered that filming for the series is set to take place in Snowdonia, north Wales, during the weeks of September 16th and 27th. Although they haven’t confirmed which actors will be present during the shoot in Wales, they do know several locations that The Witcher is planning to visit, including Llyn Padarn, Zip World, Dolbadarn Castle, and the National Slate Museum.

For the third season of “The Witcher,” filming also took place in Wales. This could result in a visually harmonious transition between seasons, as some outdoor scenes during the Thanedd Coup were filmed there, such as Rience’s demise and Ciri’s encounter with Cahir, the Nilfgaardian soldier.

Currently, The Witcher hasn’t started filming in Wales just yet. Redanian Intelligence recently shared some exciting sneak peeks from their set-up at Bourne Woods, located in Surrey, England. Frequent readers of Winter Is Coming might recognize this national park since it was where Game of Thrones’ prequel series House of the Dragon shot the epic Battle of Rook’s Rest. This year, Netflix’s The Sandman also filmed there. With such a rich history of filming, I can’t wait to see how The Witcher will utilize this picturesque location!

The Witcher season 4 and 5 will film almost back-to-back

Anticipation runs high as we approach this upcoming season of The Witcher, marking a change with Liam Hemsworth stepping into the lead role as Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill. This season is particularly significant since it’s approaching the culmination of the series. Previously, it was disclosed that the show will conclude in its fifth season, seeming to be an appropriate wrap-up for adapting the entirety of Sapkowski’s Witcher Saga.

It’s been suggested that seasons 4 and 5 of The Witcher will be filmed consecutively, wrapping up Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer’s storyline in a single continuous shoot. As reported by RI, this plan seems to remain intact. They state that filming for The Witcher Season 4 is planned to run until the end of October 2024, with Season 5 production starting shortly thereafter.

I can hardly contain my excitement as a devoted fan, anticipating the premiere of The Witcher season 4 in 2025, following the release of season 3 in 2023. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the consecutive filming schedule will shorten the wait for the grand finale.

For now, anticipate the arrival of an upcoming Netflix film titled “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep”, a new anime spin-off. During Geeked Week, which is scheduled for next week, we might get additional information about this project. The storyline is inspired by Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story “A Little Sacrifice,” depicting Geralt’s early days as a monster hunter and his interactions with mer-people. Voice actor Doug Cockle, known for voicing Geralt in the well-liked Witcher video games, will reprise his role in the anime production.

If the existing Witcher series isn’t satisfying enough for you, author Andrzej Sapkowski has also completed a brand-new Witcher book! This is anticipated to be released during the winter season of 2024-2025.
