BBC reboot of satirical sitcom confirms release date with new look at Hugh Bonneville’s return

The new sitcom Twenty Twenty Six, featuring Hugh Bonneville and Hugh Skinner, will premiere soon! Narrated by David Tennant, it’s expected to be very popular.

So, this new show is basically a continuation of those hilarious BBC comedies, Twenty Twelve and W1A. I loved those! Remember Hugh Bonneville as Ian Fletcher? Well, this series follows what happens after his career took a bit of a hit – it’s all about his attempt to bounce back. It’s the same kind of funny, behind-the-scenes look at how things work (or don’t!) at the Beeb.

The latest installment of the series brings Ian back together with Will Humphries (played by Skinner), and this time the story revolves around the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Bonneville’s character now works as Director of Integrity, a role that promises plenty of comedic opportunities.

Following its announcement in June, fans have been eager to find out when Ian and the team would return to television. Now, it’s been confirmed that Twenty Twenty Six will premiere on BBC Two at 10pm on April 8th.

So, Bonneville just dropped a hint on Instagram! It sounds like a big tournament is coming up, and apparently, someone named Ian Fletcher is holed up in an office in Miami with a ball… and maybe a secret strategy? It’s got me hyped to see what’s going on!

The comment section filled up with excited messages from fans, with one person writing, “At last, some good news with everything going on!”

One fan said the new show would be great if it was even half as good as Twenty Twelve, while another joked that it would be more enjoyable than watching the actual football tournament.

The new sitcom will star Bonneville and Skinner, alongside Marli Siu, Nicole Sadie Sawyerr, Joe Hewetson, Erin Kellyman, Nick Blood, Jimena Larraguivel, Stephen Kunken, and Chelsey Crisp.

John Morton, the show’s creator, said he’s excited and thankful to the BBC for letting him continue Ian’s story, now taking it all the way to Miami. He’s really looking forward to seeing how things unfold.

Hugh Skinner said it’s been a long time since he played Will in W1A, but he’s delighted to return to the role. He described Will as still ‘completely useless,’ which he finds amusing. Skinner also expressed how much he’s enjoyed working with both familiar and new members of the cast and crew, according to the BBC.

Twenty Twenty Six premieres on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer on 8 April.

The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
